I believe at this time PSA is the only one to offer a CHF 14.7" inch mid-length gas barrel from the factory. I was concerned about who did the gas port and who cut, crowned and threaded these barrels.
Since I'm probably a couple pay checks from buying my 1st AR, thought I'd chime in... A lot of opinions are from longtime gun owners who want to make sure you get the best for your cash.
I don't know the OP but some 1st timers don't even shoot yet. It all depends on what your really getting an AR for. Is it going to sit in the corner and be the "just in case something happens", never shot, cool military style rifle that you show your buddies when they visit. Or is it the start or continuation of a serious hobby.
Its kinda like the guy who wants to start hiking/camping and buys all the top of the line Mountain Hardware and North Face gear and then never goes. He should have bought the Coleman stuff first, and then based on his level of participation purchase "better" gear later when he's more familiar with what he wants to do.
A lot of guys start out with lower value AR's and are fine..100 rds a year in the desert isn't a lot to ask from An AR. If you get serious you can always move up to "better" gear later.
Personally I'm the buy the best quality I can afford guy. I'm going with the Daniel Defense M4V3 because I intend to shoot it, defend myself with it and keep it for a long time..but I also understand the money side and PSA sounds like they are very interested in continuing building AR's and Reputation. Several remarks from the owner of Psa over on Arfcom with his plan on fixing the mistakes they've made lead me to believe they can shake off the negatives that have happened to a few of their builds. Thats my 19 cents worth.
and will continue too be LOTS of noise for a time to come about PSA.
Time will errode the noise.
Heck why doesn't Rob_S, IG or the like (good signal emitters) evaluate one....that'll clear a bunch of noise up.
The carbine with the PRO offer would be good. PSA, have a "test" carbine?
I'll send a PSA upper to any of the mods, rob_s, markm, etc. for testing
Colt 6920 for $990, hands down. Good rifle, good resale, good price.
