Can the rails still be used with the forward charging handle installed?
It looks like even the thinnest rail covers would hinder the operation of the charging mechanism.

The "...large indentation..." is not superfluous, it is the clearance needed for the dust cover latch housing when the dust cover is closed. Since your carrier doesn't have that clearance, it doesn't look like the dust cover can be closed when the bolt is in battery with your carrier.
So, a choice must be made...bolt open/dust cover closed or bolt closed/dust cover open. Correct?
If carrying with bolt closed/dust cover open (as is prudent in many circumstances) and dust/dirt/grit (swill) inevitably collects on the 'wipe', where does the swill go when the bolt cycles? It appears that it is 'wiped' against the rear of the e-port, which would cause the swill to pile up in the rear of the e-port radius as the bolt moves rearward.
From there where does it go?
Doesn't it just drop into the action...possibly onto the now-exposed tail of the bolt or the locking lugs...since there is no structure in-place to 'kick' the pile out of the e-port as the forward edge of the 'wipe' slides clear?
How is this 'better' than the swill just riding the BCG somewhere in-between the 'rails' and staying off of the bolt?

it looks like it has a small detent in the rear of the dust wiper, which correlates to a nub on the proprietary dust cover

NM, I just saw the FA serrations :p
Is it true you had a bad batch of lower receivers that have issues with PMAG's? A rise in the magazine well that you refused to fix until your next production run.
Interesting
Wrong. Our dust cover is a different design that does work with the bolt down.
We are not saying that this design eliminates dirt/debris from getting into the system but it does do a much better job at helping keep it out than a traditional carrier/dust cover. The fact that the wiper is smooth and does not have a large indentation in it will help with keeping dirt/debris that may come into contact with it from pilling up and getting dragged into the system. Not a solution to keeping all crap out of your rifle but a nice improvement.
