1-4x Scope for Duty use?

Nothing wrong with the Aimpoint option and I used to run a M4 with a magnifier for a while. But I now run a Trijicon TR24 for duty. As to the Co Witness who cares its not even something I cared to do with the Aimpoint prefering flip down sights that were out of my field of view. For my rifle I use off set irons that are there in an instant with a simple 30 degree cant of the rifle.
The Aimpoint without a magnifier is a great CQB weapon but it has serious limitations at range and on target ID. It does not help you look into dark windows where a threat could be hiding. Frankly a red dot alone is a one hit wonder. Great for CQB but little else. A good low power variable is a jack of all trades. It gives up very little ot a red dot at close range when set to 1x and when its cranked up to max magnification it has a lot of advantages over the limited 1x red dot. Now an Aimpoint with a magnifier addresses some of these issues but still has some disadvantages like no ability to quickly dial in for shooting different ranges and most red dots do not have a BDC option in the reticle. A good 1-4,5,6,8 scope is an excellent LEO optic in my opinion and that is why I use one.

One of the nice things about the expensive scopes is that they tend to hold their value very well. As long as you don't abuse one too much, you can quite easily sell it off near what you paid for it and upgrade/downgrade to different glass. I used a NF 2.5-10x for two years and sold it off for $150 less than I paid for it. I looked at it as "leasing" the scope for $75/year.

Esp on other sites that focus on precision shooting, they tend to sell quickly.

Almost all of our shootings (urban environment) are at very close range. Does not matter if its a carbine or a pistol - "length of a car / width of a room".

Better to have it and not need it ,than need it and not have it.:D

That is pretty typical but what do you do in those situations that are not the norm.

Yes, most LE carbine uses are at handgun distances.

Some are not, even in an urban area.

The recent Issaquah, WA active shooter incident ended when several officers confronted the suspect at about 100 yards. He was prone in a drainage ditch and firing a 30-30.

I would think weight concerns would be high on the priority list,
Ive found my 1-4 on my rifle to be unbalanced. Whats the lightest most compact variable?

With all due respect come on. Your crying about a little weight. Most three gun shooters are running 1-4,5,6's and they don't whine about it. Also how is it a balance issue as the scope is right in the middle of the guns fulcrum point. It should not make it front or back heavy.
