Math looks good from my little knowledge of delta v calculations from my accident reconstruction classes. Advanced math translated into beat cop. :D
Well if it is around 9 seconds that is good since it drops the overall cost per hour to around 100 grand. Whew! I feel better.
Where the heck is Molon anymore? He could bust some science on this.
This is definitely an interesting spin on thinking about things.
ETA: .......
ETA2: I believe heat would play a large factor in barrel life. Obviously firing schedule and barrel length also play into heat/barrel life as well. A shorter barrel is going to heat up faster and retain heat longer than a longer barrel. Also, with firing schedule, dumping a mag through the rifle is going to heat the barrel up faster, and get it a lot hotter than slow firing. This data would need to be included to get an accurate depiction of realistic barrel life. I know we're just throwing around kind of an oddball, general number, and it's not extremely technical, but it was a thought that crossed my mind. Also, suppressor use would add to the heat retention of the barrel, so by deductive reasoning, dumping rounds through a suppressed 10.5" barrel vice slow firing with a 20" precision rig, you're going to see less barrel life from the short suppressed rig accuracy wise, but those types of weapons aren't necessarily designed to be accurate at distance, although some are. Shorter barreled guns do see more wear than longer guns, but also tend to be able to be used for higher round counts, because the diminishing long range accuracy doesn't affect them nearly as much for their intended use.
Sorry, I'm rambling now. I have mental diarhea right now thinking about this.
Thanks for reminding me of my aircraft performance/accident/physics classes. I really do miss all that. Just wish I could find a job doing it. Should have been an engineer. I would have had the Air Force eating out of the palm of my hand rather than them declining my vision waiver. Now off to take my accounting final exam :/
