I believe it's an improved version of the Ops-Core Gunsight Mandible debuted at SHOT 2011. According to their own product literature" "it uses a combination of soft armor and support frame technology".

the mandible is flexible enough to get a decent cheek weld; same thing with the Crye chops. when you press the stock against your cheek, it flexes and just adds about 1/4" between your cheek and the stock. a slight cant (maybe about 10°) of the weapon also helps look through the RDS/optic.
while usable with rifles, face protection like that is intended more for roles like driving/riding in vehicles, or behind weapons that don't require a cheek weld like miniguns or M2's etc.
