Federal 45 ACP Hi-Shok info needed

I've searched high and low and can't find any info on the Federal 45D 45 ACP ammo that is currently available. This ammo is a hollow point bullet at about the same price as most other FMJ ammo. Where does the Federal Hi-Shok bullet come in compared to the Gold Dot or Golden Saber, and how does the 45D ammo compare to other similar types of ammo?

It is one of the best of the 2nd generation JHP's from the early 1990's. However, it often fails to expand through heavy clothing and does not do as well against auto windshields as newer designs. It does make great practice ammo...

Thanks for the info. I knew it was an older design but I didn't know about the expansion issues. I guess I'll stick with my Gold Dots for carry.

I'd say you can't go wrong with anything in Doc's "Self Defense and DUty Load" sticky.

My dept has been using 45d for about twenty years. We haven't had any ois shooting with this round but we shoot dozens of deer that were struck by cars every year. Usually the round goes through the deer. the few bullets I've recovered did not show any or little expansion.
