    Looking for an AK optic...

But, I want something that looks more authentic to the AK.

I have a new 74 and I want to gauge it's accuracy and have been kicking around the idea of a 4x Russian scope.

I had the rifle built at ORF with the siderail with this in mind.

I've found a few places that sell Russian scopes pretty cheap ($120-$160) for a decent 4x or 6x or even variable powered scope.

I've found one that's particularly interesting as it's adjustable from 1.5x-4.5x.

It's got an illuminated reticle and seems pretty nice:

But it's $240. I'd probably be better off with something else at that price.

I wouldn't mind plopping down $120 for a 4x scope but this seems to be a neat idea. Anyone have any suggestions?

The standard PSO-1 should probably fit what you're looking for.

Bear in mind that you're getting exactly what you're paying with the Russian (actually Beylorussian) optics.......

I'd compare the clarity to a Bushnell from 1984, but they are durable.

But if they hold up, hold a zero and the adjustments are accurate I won't ask for much more.

Hey, weren't they probably all made in 1984?

Then you'll probably be OK. I just didn't want you anticipating decent light gathering or optical clarity.

I've also always found the "Dragunov" reticle to be too "busy", but I know a fair amount of guys who like it.

Probably will be something I can use to determine if my rifle shoots good groups then I'll be able to practice with the irons and know that any bad groups are MY fault and not the fault of the rifle.

It will be nice for pictures too!

The wood is a little orange. I almost want a darker Russian wood. How much will that set me back and where will I want to start looking? Russian or anything similar.

The originals were quite orange. Be proud.

Are you just wanting to stick to a authentic eastern european/soviet theme?

Why not mount an aimpoint T-1 or H-1 and call it a day?
