The Trijicon Tr24 has a healthy following and proven track record, dual illumination as well.

If you dont mind so-so daylight illumiation (but etched reticle so still good daytime performance) I would second the MTAC. Lightweight, durable, nice reticle, real 1x, forgiving eyebox, and damn cheap for what it gives.

    I second this.

OP: FWIW I did a lot of soul searching and tried out many different configurations for a while during silencer shoots and various range time on other people's rigs that would let me try them out.

In the end I went with a Trijicon Accupoint 1.5x4 and it has worked very well for me. I really like the dual illumination as well and sub $1K it is hard to beat.

Second the Trijicon TR24, mine is as close to 1x as any other 1 to something optic, at least as far as my eyes are concerned. I testet alot of different scopes and the Trijicon was one of the fastest for me to focus through on 1x.
If your having trouble with distorted images through the Accupoint you need to look up in price, not down. For competitive shooting over here the Swarovski Z6i is dominant for those who can afford it.

Just pulled the trigger on the SWFA. We'll we how it goes when it gets here. I'm still keeping my ear to the ground about the Leupold though.
I'm not cool. I just do this stuff for fun.

If you want a BDC reticle check out the Burris XTR 1-4 ($700). I looked at a bunch of 1-4's before buying and when I saw the Burris I knew I found what I wanted.....something I didn't have to adjust manually for longer shots.

The Trijicon 1-4 looked like a nice scope too, but the Burris BDC reticle was the selling point for me.

How small an area were you evaluating the TR24 in? The low end is really close to 1x, but it's harder to overcome the distortion up close simply because that objective lens is an entire foot in front of you, which makes closer objects seem more distorted, while if you're running it quickly ( and are used to OEGs ) then it really will work seamlessly.

I tested the Trijicon at ranges out to about 50 yards at 1x, the distortion just bugged the crap out of me.

Must have been something wrong with the scope, or your eyes

Maybe so. If i used the optic like a traditional scope, it wasn't as bad as if I were using it on 1x for a fast-acquisition optic. Gave me the same sort of effect I get if i put on glasses with just slightly the wrong prescription.
