Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x36mm MR/T M1 Illum. TMR -or- ??????????????

I have $500 in gift certificates to Cabela's. I want to put a scope on my SDI mid-length AR-15 and use the rifle for coyotes, rabbits, and other such vermin. Now I need to determine which scope to buy. I want a high quality, lower weight, medium magnification tactical grade scope with a plex-ish style reticle.

Thinking I would like a Leupold, I inquired about a special order. Cabela's can order me the Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x36mm MR/T M1 (yes, I want 1/4MOA adjustments) Illum. TMR for $1049.99 plus $19.95 shipping. OK, so it's not the cheapest place to buy the scope, but $500 of the money isn't coming from me, so it's actually quite inexpensive.

Here's my dilemma. Is the Leupold Mark 4 the be-all end-all of scopes for my intended application, or are there other manufactures and/or models that I should consider? I looked at the Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10x44 Tactical Illuminated Mildot, but it weighs 24.7 ounces compared to the Leupold's 16 ounces. This is more than likely due to the 44mm objective vs. the 36mm objective and the 2.3 inch longer length.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can receive some good advice. Thanks.
