    HK P2000 Bubba Mod

I've been quite happy with my HK P2000. Quality is superb, accuracy is acceptable, and it's been very reliable with one exception; I've had numerous failures of the slide to lock on an empty mag.

The problem is a large slide release lever that is constantly activated by an aggressive thumbs forward grip. It's actually the meaty part of my support hand thumb that activates it. I'm unwilling to change my grip, so something had to be done with the slide release lever.

HK actually makes a "slim" lever for the P2000, but they are pretty much impossible to find, so I picked up a regular one. I applied my considerable Dremel tool skills to the project and coated the damage with some flat black Tremclad. In true Bubba fashion, I applied the paint with a piece of paper towel because I was out of paint brushes.

    OEM slide release:

    Comparison:

    Some other points:

    1) Yes, I can still lock the slide back manually (in the event of a double feed, or what have you). There is still a little lip on the underside of the release and it works well.

    2) I only applied the Tremclad to the outside portion of the slide release that I worked on. The rest I left in the factory finish, which by the way, is much nicer than the finish on the ones that came with the pistol. The OEM units are almost purple in colour and show wear easily.

    3) I can still activate the slide release with my thumb. It's harder to activate, because it's now essentially flush with the slide, but it still works. 99% of the time I come over the top of the slide to release it anyway. The only time I use the lever is when performing drills where every fraction of a second counts or if I need to lock the slide to the rear for some reason.

Now I just have to test it with several hundred rounds to make sure everything works as it should.

Excellent work there sir! I too am a huge fan of the P2000. It's one of my favorite pistols. I haven't shot mine a while though. But nice work there and hope it works out for you.

Nice! I've been meaning to order a couple spare slide levers and re-aquatint myself with my Dremel

I have always wanted a RDS for my HK45 so I did some bubba mods myself

using a DD offset mount I was able to mount an aimpoint M4

this bubba mod allows me to shoot my handgun in my favorite position... gangster style

Great work. Now I know who I can go to if I ever run into that problem. My Dremel skills are inconsistent.

It's an acquired skill. You should see the stuff I can do with duct tape....
