New to AR's going for my first build

So im new to the AR department. Been around guns my whole life and always wanted one and this summer going to build one myself. Actually have a buddy of mine whos in the service and been doing this for a while supervising it all so im not going into it blind. Looking for some critiques maybe better ways to go or any input at all. Heres what I have going so far

Command arms accessories M4 modular Stock
    Hogue Grip
    Grip Pod system
    Troy tritium HK style BUIS
    Bravo Company charging handle
Rail system still unsure. The daniel defense I do like but they are quite expensive, also seems magpul is quite popular.
With the lower my buddy said he was going with bcm bolt carrier group and was curious what would be a good platform to go with.
The upper my buddy has high standard and says he likes it on his gun but hes still looking around for my gun. SO open to input for sure on these few things to get the last little pieces put together.

Also have a few accessories im going to throw on there but thats the main platform. Open to suggestions comments critiques just whatever. Thanks!

Judging by your list, I'd say that neither of you know what your doing. You have really shitty and really good parts intertwined and just because your buddy is in the service doesn't mean he knows good from bad.

Instead of building your first rifle, buy a complete one such as a Colt, BCM, or DD and learn the platform first. You'll end up dumping more money into a sub-par rifle than what you'd pay OTD. Buy once, cry once is a term that comes to mind. If you cheap out or mess something up, you'll be back at square one with a $1000 baseball bat.

Go through the forum, and read the stickies and knowledge based threads before you go and jump the gun. Everything you could possibly think of has already been covered...read more, ask less.

This is the build I just finished. The only reason I made a list was because my friend wanted to know how much I dropped on it (~$2500 w/o optics or light). Maybe this will point you in a direction, but I also recommend buying a complete AR for your entry into the platform. DD, BCM, or Colt.

    Noveske 14.5'' Afghan - $450

    BattleComp 1.5 - $155

    Pin and Weld - $40

    LaRue 12'' Handguard - $300

    Vltor MUR - $190

    Troy Sights - $200

    Noveske N4 Lower - $185

    Daniel Defense LPK - $85

    Geissele SSA - $185

Mil Spec Receiver Extension Kit - $70

UDE LaRue Magpul Kit + XTM Panels -$250 (rounded down)

Noveske QD end plate - $25

    QD Swivels (2) - $30

Vltor Noveske charging handle - $45

    LaRue BCG - $130

Magpul MIAD enhanced trigger guard - $20

Grip Pod system - Gigantic POS made for people who use VFG's improperly. The bipod is wobbly and worse than a magazine monopod.
Troy tritium HK style BUIS - Good choice here. HK vs M4 style is personal preference.
Bravo Company charging handle - Good choice here if you mean the Gunfighter. I like the Mod4.

Rail system still unsure. The daniel defense I do like but they are quite expensive, also seems magpul is quite popular. - Take all the money saved from buying useless, cheap crap, and put it toward a quality free float rail from DD, Centurion, Troy, or a plethora of other companies making good stuff.

With the lower my buddy said he was going with bcm bolt carrier group - Good choice...the BCG is part of the upper BTW

The upper my buddy has high standard and says he likes it on his gun but hes still looking around for my gun. SO open to input for sure on these few things to get the last little pieces put together. - Forget High Standard. Get a quality upper from BCM, Ranier, DD, etc. etc. etc.

Also have a few accessories im going to throw on there but thats the main platform. Open to suggestions comments critiques just whatever. Thanks!
Comments in blue. No disrespect intended, but I would politely tell your buddy thanks for the help, then proceed to ignore his advice and go with what people here advise.

I know the excitement that comes with buying or building a new firearm, but you need to have a purpose for said firearm in your mind. What do you plan to do with your AR? Plinking, Self/Home Defense, Competition, Training Courses?

Without know what you want to do with the gun, we can't help you. And in all honesty, being that you're new to ARs, you probably don't really know what you want or need from an AR.

For a first AR, I'd strongly suggest that you buy either a Colt 6920 (arguably the "gold standard" of ARs) or the 6720 (lightweight barrel, otherwise the same as the 6920) and 1000 rounds of ammo, and a good sling (VCAS from Blue Force Gear, or the VTAC Sling from Viking Tactics would be great choices). Shoot the ammo, and take some training, then you'll start to learn what you really want out of an AR.

This is just my opinion, but I've been down that road, and I wish someone would have said to me, "Hey! WTF are doing?! You don't know enough to know what you need!"

Thanks alot for putting it all out there. Ive been reading through these forums for hours now and been learning alot.

Also with the GPS. A friend of mine had one on his gun and I havent used it that much to see it being a POS but I really liked it. What would be a better option to go with besides it?

Thanks for the input! My purpose for the gun would mainly be for personal shooting. I dont have a rifle and I would love to have one to really get good at shooting. I plan on putting quite a bit of ammo through the thing. I mean honestly id love to get good enough to do competitions with. I think that would be awesome to do. Also having it for personal home defense as any gun. And I know I dont know enough yet on what I need thats the whole reason im here. It will be 4-5 months down the road before I spend the firs dollar on this gun so I have quite a bit of tiem to learn all I need to know to get what I need/want.

Your first AR carbine should look like this-

and should continue looking like this until you shoot it enough to know yourself what it needs

Maybe not as much fun as spending money on a bunch of cool looking stuff that you have no idea what it does, but it's a helluva lot cheaper

    2. MATCH SCRATCHES ON MATCH-BOX
    3. MATCH LIGHTS FUSE TO TNT
