Stuck in the Middle. Living out of the BOV

I always try to plan for every contingency in case of a SHTF event but have found the more I plan the greater load of gear I have to pack into the BOV.

So now that I have the home front and the Bug out location stored and secured the newest contingency to deal with is the fact that during a Bug Out one may not be able to reach a primary or even a secondary Bug out location due to unforeseen obstacles such as road closures, Government travel restrictions or just flat out hostiles between you and your location.

So if you had to live out of your BOV for a extended period of time would your current BOV Bug out provisions cover your family for outside living?

I have a large internal capacity vehicle with a roof cargo container and a small rack on the trailer hitch and with that room I figure I could with camping gear last 30 days max with what the vehicle can carry.

That covers everything from food, clothes, first aid, sanitation and shelter.

Has anyone else planed for a extended live out of the BOV scenario?

This has crossed my mind, provided automobiles are still functioning in lieu of said event.

I have a quad cab truck with a long bed on it, with the camping gear the wife and I could "car camp" if we could not get to our principal bug out location for an extended period of time. I've considered a hard shell camper for the bed for this very reason.

Hey just curious guys.. do you have a dedicated BOV? My problem is I'd like to keep a good size kit in my truck but don't want to leave it in my truck for it to get stolen... I've only got as far as keeping a small 24 hour get home bag in my truck at all times in hopes I can make it home to my primary stuff.

I consider BOV load outs to be a store at home items do to size and keep individual bare bones 72 hour bags in the BOV 24/7. I will be adding a cheap (Under $100.00) six person Coleman extreme weather camping tent and two cases of water in the vehicle starting today to cover the "Oh Crap" a SHTF event kicked off preventing us from returning home to hopefully make a extended trip (Under five days max) to the Bug out location.

These few addition items will take little space in the BOV and will add a bit more flexibility to the 72 hour kits. I still will make every effort to grab the main supplies at the homestead but won't endanger the family doing so.

May I suggest that you check out Expedition Portal.com

A great expedition site focused on vehicles, these guys spend a lot of time living out of their trucks.
