It looks like it is making about a 1mm dent. It still should last for a while. A 9mm does nothing physically to the metal but does visually make a mark.
I’ve never photographed or measured the divots 5.56 made on my steel plate. Maybe I’ll do it in the morning. I’ve never got any splatter back with handguns as close as 15 feet, so I guess as long as I quit before I made my plate look like the moon, the safety aspect of the design of my plate is still in tact. It’s an ActionTarget Evil Roy target. .233 was ok at 100 yards, but 5.56 at 75 yards was too much for it.
