Question for Doc-Have gotten around to the 5.45 Hornady load yet?

I know sometime last year it was brought up-I keep seeing threads on sites about ballistic testing this round and I was wondering if you have gotten around to it yet.
    Thanks!
And thanks for all the good work you do in ballistics-we all look forward to seeing the new ammo tested.

Ive been interested this as well, I run a AR 5.45 as a training gun but it would be nice to have it as a back up gun with good ammo as well. From what Ive seen it looks to perform much like a 60gr V-max in the .223 which is less than stellar performance.

^^ What he said, although l think the vmax bullet is awesome. Keep in mind its a varmint bullet designed to basically blow up small creatures, its pretty good at that.

what they SHOULD do (but probably never will) is make a 5.45x39 TBBC in ~ 60 grain for GP and some 90-100grain otms for distance. The bullet, as far as I can tell is long enough to accompany such a high mass while still being able to fit in a standard mag.

Anyways, Doc has posted, I think this week that he has not tested it yet, but its upcoming IIRC. Light vmax - dont hold your breath.

In shooting into water I found that the 5.45 acted almost exactly like the .223 60gr TAP

For general purpose work I was using surplus Russian or Wolf 60gr FMJ as both yawed very early when striking water but held together to penetrate far better than the Hornady load.

If it's the same round I'm thinking of, it works damn good blowing up internal organs in deer....

There's as guy on another forum who has a bunch of threads of the deer he hunted with it.

Vmax might work on a deer, it wouldn't be my choice though. Its a varmint bullet meant for blowin up pdogs and chucks up to coyotes is my limit with vmax.
