I've shot dozens of deer, most with a carbine length AR. People that lose deer suck at shot placement, plain and simple. I hunt from the ground only and never had an issue with making a good heart and lungs shot, haven't found a round yet that doesn't leave a golf ball sized hole on the opposite side of the rib cage to include the 60 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip that I use for prairie dogs. Hunt with your AR with confidence.

Not to hijack, but I have some Black Hill's 55GR softpoints, would those do ok on deer? I would use my 20" rifle.

I have killed a lot of deer with a 223 and it is used a lot by older guys who know how to shoot and don't rush or take bad shots.

55g SP, 64g or Barnes TSX will cleanly kill whitetails within a resonable distance..

I have two 556 ARs but hunt with a 6.8 AR and have owned a 300 as well.
My favorite of all 3 is the 68 but all 3 work.

I've knocked down a lot of deer with a .223 as well. Use a good quality hunting bullet and place it right.
