Barrel whip in LAV video advertisement

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hKaP...ature=youtu.be

Barrel flex has been discussed here before and we all know yes the barrel is steel and steel bars bend. I was watching the above link and at about 1:40 when he takes the shot you see the barrel flex on an AR. It is a circular motion which makes sense being the barrel is "rifled". Always thought it would be more vertical.

It is pretty pronounced, I didn't realize it was that much. Makes me feel better about my next build being a free float.

Wow, that thing at 1:40 makes an AK barrel look stable.

No the barrel doesn't move in a circle - it more of a figure eight! This brought on by the torque of the bullet moving down the barrel! Known as Harmonics. Light profile barrels- more movement - Bull barrels not so much. If you watch a slow motion video of an AK it has ALOT of movement ! Not harmonics but the gas piston torqueing upward on the barrel.

Cool stuff. High frame rate video replayed at reduced speed gives a glimpse into a world unseen by the naked eye.

I also noticed they had their micro Aimpoints set back a little further than we usually see as discussed in this thread.

Here is another AK barrel flex video. Note this is the heavier barrel earlier production AK-47 with a milled receiver. I imagine the thinner barrel stamped receiver AKM's have more barrel flex

Umm...maybe because the barrel is free-floating?
