Gasoline can store for 5 to 10 years?

First post for a long time lurker. Never had anything much to contribute being a not-even-low speed civilian. But this caught my eye.

    http://www.batterystuff.com/kb/artic...hy-bother.html

Says if you treat with their gas stabilizer annually, it will keep gasoline good for a lot longer than I thought was possible (1 or 2 years). Anyone know for sure about this?

If this is correct, my local Tractor Supply has a 100 gallon internal baffled, metal tank and having a few of those at home and cached elsewhere (on way to backup location and at the backup location) would seem to be a really good idea. Would pretty much solve my fuel problem regarding my LandCruiser (I may need to travel to get some folks out of Dodge).

    Any insight would be appreciated.

Also, mods, I hope this counts toward my 30 posts to use the marketplace. At this rate though, I should hit 30 about the time the sun burns out.

    Don't store Ethanol, it seperates.
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.

My storage fuel at the bug-out location is treated once with Gumout Fuel stabilizer 3oz per 7 gallons and is stored sheltered off the ground in racks and rotated every 18 months. Never had a single problem with the vehicle I rotate the gas in to and thats good enough for me. I keep 147 gallons which may not seem like a lot but its enough to run the generator sparingly for a full year.

Back up the generator with solar and you can survive off the grid for a solid 18 months.

Yep. I have problems with ethanol blend gasoline in my small engine stuff (chain saw, weedeater and what-not) after being stored for maybe six months.

Are you guys talking about E85 or normal gasoline with 10% ethanol?

    85% Ethanol

If you've ever heard of "flex fuel vehicles", this is where E85 comes in.

Ethanol is all that is available around me, at least as far as I've seen. It will stay good with a stabilizer at least through winter.

I try to buy non ethanol blended gas in the summer and use that for my storage fuel. A few fuel stations en-route to my bug out location carries the un-blended fuels as the farmers claim it damages large farm equipment. Now I don't know if that claim is true or not but I would rather treat and store pure 89 octane normal gasoline then one with 10% ethanol.

There is a local BP that carries regular in 10% ethanol as well as regular in non-ethanol. His mid-grade and hi-test do not have ethanol either. I fill the truck up at one BP or Shell and then fill all my gas cans for lawnmower, chainsaw and generator with non-ethanol mid-grade. When gas is running higher than usual, I run regular grade non-ethanol. I asked the owner how long he would continue non-ethanol and he said as long as he can get it from his supplier.
