The lower end of the upper tier, just to be clear. And I didn't to get killed for saying that.

Ok I have been lurking on here for a long time and I going to throw my 2 cents in as well. Before I joined here years ago I had an bought an Oly. Could have bought the Colt at the but didn't, just being cheap. I sold it off at a slight loss but was happy to not have to scrap it.

Fast forward to 6 months ago, I bought a Spikes in two parts (front pin was a bear to get out when disassembling). I drank the koolaid sorry. I just traded it off locally for a SA RO, extra grips, and a boat load of mags, I think I did pretty good.

In the last few months I have bought an LMT lower, Aimpoint PRO, and a Colt LE6920 from Grant. I got an LMT upper from VTS (sorry Grant you were out of stock and it was a great deal).

If you take anything away from my story it's that you should buy the best from the start and don't waste your money.Hopefully I can save a few folks from making my mistakes themselves.

That may be, I just prefer a rear flip up iron sight. So that when I do put an optic on, the back up sights are already in place.

OP, there is no objective, qualitative difference between Spikes and the other brands that are generally recommended around here. If anyone says otherwise, ask them to provide an objective reason why Spikes is in some way of a lower quality than the other companies normally suggested. They won't be able to.

Of course, Spikes does conduct their business in an, er, unorthodox manner that many are put off by. That's why you'll find many on this site who aren't fans of Spikes. I totally get that. But as far as their product goes, it's probably the best bang for your buck out there. I'm also a fan of their unique buffers and melonited gas tubes, which come standard in all their rifles.

In any case, you can't really go wrong with any of the other suggestions either. Just realize that you'll be paying a bit more for a different rollmark. Be sure to let us know what you decide.

You are a fan of their buffers even though they offer nothing more than other quality heavy buffers. That says alot.

You should look at the slow motion comparison that was done with buffers on Youtube.

My dad bought a PSA 20" parts kit (had me put it together) their stuff is not that bad, had a hard time getting a couple of the roll pins to go in but all in all it seams like a well built weapon and their customer service is pretty good IMO. I prefer and recommend BCM, Daniel Defense, and Noveske, but for someone on a budget PSA is worth looking into

You are 100%. However, spikes has nothing in stock. No 20s, no 16s, no 14.5, no BCG, no rails.....why bother.

I wish BCM did a 20 BHF too. That would be sweet.

At least, my spikes lower is ok. I say OK because the finish in not very durable, but then again some marks here and there show the rifle is not a safe queen and gives it character.

OP go with the Colt, then try BCM, DD and if cash flow improves maybe a KA, Noveske, LMT.

Has anyone here tested Windham Weaponry? I am pretty much a total newbie to this class of rifle, although I have been a rifle and pistol shooter for 56 years.

So far, I have no complaint at all with the WW carbine. I got the 16" one with detachable handle and associated iron sight. It has been totally reliable and about as accurate as I would expect. As a disclaimer I must say that my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and I have not tested the rifle from double sandbag rests. Shooting standing, leaning against a shooting bench with the rifle on my hand, which is rested on a block I can hold about 4 minutes of angle quite consistently. I can't do any better with any other iron sighted centerfire rifle under the same conditions.

So, is there something I am missing? WW rifles seem to have the desired features - mil spec chamber - chromed bore - and so on.

Have any of the senior posters here tried this brand and found it good or found it wanting in any way? Maybe the answer is no, since they haven't been around very long.

Windham is a slightly improved bushmaster. Same barrel and commercial receiver extention, the only difference ive found is ww is using a m16 bcg that is staked well. I wouldnt assume its a true 5.56 unless measured. A local instructor uses a couple ww's as rentals and sofar they have been reliable in his high round count classes.
