That's the fastest way of ending up with a bunch of "spare" gun parts.
Explain to me how shopping around and planning causes the spare parts drawer to get full?

If you do your research, you buy the right things the first time.

I planned & shopped around for a month, and the only "spare parts" I have is a charging handle (because the upper came with one and I wanted a Gunfighter), 1 KAC rail cover, a safety selector (I went ambi), and the back half of the mag release (ambi again).

No spare grips, slings, FSB, rails/hand-guards, stocks, buffers, springs, carry handles, etc.

Hell, I have not even moved anything from is initial mounting location, aside from where I mount my rear sling QD (per the advice of Mike Pannone).

Now I intentionally have a spare BCM auto BCG that I got from a local guy for $120, and will eventually have a spare trigger group when I get the funds for a Geissele.

After 2 classes and seeing lot's of other peoples rifles and how they shoot, I have no desires for anything else. Everything I have on my rifle is perfect for me (comps are really obnoxious. Been next door to one at both).

All this because I did my research by reading up on options, asking questions, and took the advice of people on this forum.

SO...to the OP - If you want it/gotta have it now, call Grant and get the Colt. If you know you are going to want to add/end up with different things that the "Off the shelf" rifle does not have like a rail, grip, stock, etc...then come up with an end result and start shopping around, or send Grant your "Dream Rifle" specs and see what he can do. You may have to wait another month or two for him to get some of it in stock if he is out, but at least you know it is on it's way.

So far, I have no complaint at all with the WW carbine. I got the 16" one with detachable handle and associated iron sight. It has been totally reliable and about as accurate as I would expect. As a disclaimer I must say that my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and I have not tested the rifle from double sandbag rests. Shooting standing, leaning against a shooting bench with the rifle on my hand, which is rested on a block I can hold about 4 minutes of angle quite consistently. I can't do any better with any other iron sighted centerfire rifle under the same conditions.

So, is there something I am missing? WW rifles seem to have the desired features - mil spec chamber - chromed bore - and so on.

Have any of the senior posters here tried this brand and found it good or found it wanting in any way? Maybe the answer is no, since they haven't been around very long.
I see no reason to try them.

You are hungry. In front of you lies two boxes that you have been told contains edibles. One has an open top and inside you can see your favorite meal, cooked to perfection, and exactly as you like it. The other box has a closed top, and while you can't say for sure what is in it, a slightly odd smell is coming from it.

    which box do you pick?

That makes a world of sense if you already own a rifle (or 5 or 10) and you're all happy and satisfied. However, if you're new in the market, you would be well advised to check out an option that might be very attractive.

Two things have changed since I posted my question yesterday. One is that I have read two reviews of this brand (Windham Weaponry). One was in "The American Rifleman", which I would call a trusted source. Both reviews found this brand to be a superior rifle at an affordable price. The other thing that changed is that I bought a Trijicon ACOG and tried it at the range yesterday. My WW MPC can shoot a whole lot better than I can, and may be one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned. I'll need more time and testing to be sure just how accurate it is.

I should think that people who want to hold themselves up as being experts on this platform would want to at least investigate this brand. It is certainly worth a good look if nothing else.

Superior to which other rifles, and based on which criteria?

It is clear that you posted this thread looking for positive feedback about a purchase you made from ignorance. So carry on. If you think AR is a trusted source you should... well... yeah.

Windham Weaponry is owned by the same guy that owned Bushmaster. Leopard's don't change their spots. I have TONS of good options on the market which leads me to X amount of time to spend on these things. I'm not going to chase around after a turd because some guy on the internet looking for validation told me that what used to be called a turd was now called shit and has chocolate sauce on it so it doesn't taste quite as bad.

Ruffle a few feathers did I? Well excuuuuuuuse me.

    1. My original post was looking for information either positive or negative about a purchase I did indeed make largely in ignorance. If I had gotten a bunch or responses to the effect that people had tried the brand and it sucked for specific reasons, I would believe that. What I got instead seems to be a whole lot of "Don't bother us, our minds have been closed for years.". Not too informative either way.

    2. In the meantime I have gotten all the positive feedback I need (from other sources who were more willing to do some homework before voicing an opinion) to be quite satisfied that I got a great deal. My own experience is bearing this out.

    3. When I used the word "superior" in my relating of reviewers' findings, perhaps "very good" or even "exceptional" would have been better terminology. The reviews I read were not comparing WW to other specific brands - only what is available in the market generally. The criteria they used were: fit, finish (which they found exceptional), reliability, and accuracy (which they also found exceptional). One of the reviews also made the observation that the WW carbine was less sensitive to different loads/brands/bullet weights affecting point of impact than other similar rifles (no, they did not specify which ones).

    4. I had hoped that this forum would be a source of useful information to a new person. I am disappointed. Between the evident closed mindedness and the constant use of non descriptive abbreviations, this forum is not very user friendly. A list of all the abbreviations and what they mean would help.

In any event, I am done with this forum. I will delete my account if that is possible. Either way I will not be back, and will not see any replies to this post or my earlier ones. I think that there are much more useful sources of information out there, although at this point, since I am not going to become a full time collector/expert on the AR, I think I have gathered most of what I need to know to own/maintain/shoot/handload for the one I have, which I am thoroughly enjoying.

No, you didn't. Rob's skin is a little thicker than you may think.

This thread should have been locked after the first page. Now things are just going retarded. Again.

    I can guarantee that's a lie.
