Kevin, you are looking in the wrong place. Red spiders and white skulls on an AR does not make them cool. In fact, it's a little ghey.
Buy a Colt and don't look back. Then when you get more money, you can waste it on anything you want, sleeping good at night, knowing you have at least one quality AR.

a0cake, how has your rifle been? Reliable?, accurate?
Despite the two dongs crushing a spider on the lower, the rifle performs just as you would expect any properly constructed AR to function, reliably and with accuracy.
ETA: I'm not suggesting you buy a Spikes. Quite the opposite, actually. I'm just saying that we need to remain objective and understand WHY.

Milspec, IMO, has become an unsubstantiated buzzword used by some companies to increase perception of quality and longevity. Akin to 'eco-friendly', which is now a regulated word thanks to its widespread overuse (read:misuse) and the FCC.
Anyway, dig deeper (here) and research the companies in question and you'll get to the bottom of the substantiation, if any can be found, on a companies' claim of milspec. Some meet the requirements set forth in the TDP, some don't. In some folks' opinion, some even exceed it. It's a bit ambiguous and daunting to wade through it all but you've come to the right place to do so.
crabs. Hands down.

Are you guys not familiar with the operating characteristics of an AR-15? Listen: I'm being ambiguous intentionally. Please find the underlying meaning.
It's a properly constructed AR-15 that performs like all other properly constructed AR-15's perform as a result of their inherent properties.
Do you understand why I'm using this language?
Think about how you would respond if somebody asked you: what are the differences in performance between a 16'' Daniel Defense carbine and a 16'' BCM carbine. It would be stupid and unhelpful to give specific details about what you've done with each particular product because, for all intents and purposes, you know that both offerings are essentially equal, right?
So when we discount Spike's business practices and overall crap behavior and objectively examine their products based on their construction alone, we're left at the same point.
