    What is your price range?

There is nothing wrong with the performance of the Spikes. I have friends that own spikes and they do work and I have built a lower using a spikes stripped lower. I would just recommend to buy the best rifle that you can afford. If that is $800 then by all means buy the spikes. If it is a $1000 then I would contact grtactical and buy a colt or BCM.

Although prices are inching back up, the amount of quality that you can buy for $1000 is exceptional these days and much better than when I purchased my first AR in 2008.

Personally, I would buy this for your first carbine.

My only problem with Spike's is that I've seen first hand and heard of a lot of others getting lemon products, not assembled properly, etc. Their QC (and likely their CS, but I can't speak from experience on that) is not up to par with somebody like BCM. It seems to me, if you get a good Spike's setup then you're generally good to go but there is a higher chance of running into QC issues than the big boys in the AR game.

I remember seeing a post from a Spike's employee on this very forum acting like a dickhead because people had concerns of ST quality, and I could have sworn he said they also batch test their products rather than individually.

On top of that, they offer too many snake oil products that promise alot and deliver very little. The Punisher logo and other stupid ass rollmarks are just the icing on the cake.

That said, I do like ST overall. They are generally a very good quality company but don't confuse that with the "best" which we all know and love.

Mister, you are so close in getting a quality carbine. Think $150-$180 more and you're in there. Seriously, you would be good to go and never lose sleep with this floating around in your head, "I should have bought, insert quality brand here, to begin with. "

This is the first thread that I have read here that is saying Spike's is actually making guns on an equal level as tier one manufacturers. It has been my continued impression that they're stuff is untrustworthy and not as well made. If that is not the case then maybe I need to reconsider my stance on their rifles.

Nevertheless, this post in particular jumped out at me.

Point 1 - Let's say that Spikes really is making guns that are just as good and equal in quality to Colt, BCM, DD or LMT. Then how will Spikes be judged here on M4C? To say they're fine guns but you don't like them because of their personal transgressions against your beliefs, well then you might want to remember that Colt has supported gun control in the past. How many Colts do you own? ["you" is directed at nobody in particular]

Point 2 - I think these are fine reasons to not embrace Spikes guns and it's up to the individual buyer to decide what they're going to do with the information:

    1. the owner's petty bullshit online
    2. childish color filled zombie and pirate logos
    3. affliction-esque/silly marketing
    4. making fake suppressors (and 37mm launchers)
    5. idiotic fan base that generally doesn't know what makes an AR quality in the first place
    6. price gouging during the first Obama election
    7. making claims about "milspec" (HPT/MPI) without proof, then giving flimsy proof
    8. you just don't like it or don't feel comfortable buying it

Personally, I buy Colt, BCM and Noveske. It's fine for the sake of argument to say Spikes is good to go, but until they're proven on the same level as Colt, BCM or Noveske - I'm going to continue to buy Colt, BCM and Noveske.

By the way OP, I recommend you buy a Colt. Politics and bullshit aside - Colt holds the TDP, they make good shit, and it will be money well spent.

You are dangerously close to a Colt (FYI).

You can also buy a BCM upper, lower, BCG, GFCH for under $1k.
