would this cost to much vs buying new

Hey guys I was just at a hole in the wall gun shop. They have a remington 870 20ga receiver and barrel for $50. My question is should I buy it and get all the parts for it. Or would it be cheaper to just buy a used one intact? This is going to be a home defence home.

Does that include the mag tube?
If it does it seems a good deal if all the parts are in good shape. Figure 100-150 for furniture unless you can find some take offs.

Me personally, I'd rather have a 12g for home defense.
A Stevens 110 12g can usually be found for under $200 it just over it.

It's best to blame my misspelled words on autocorrect.

If it were me I'd do some more shopping, unless your looking for a project? In MI we have Police trade in stores where you can pick up older used 870s for sometimes just less than $200
    good luck

I was just going to lean this in the corner of the bedroom. Put a pistol grip on it and mag extension and cut the barrel down a little. This is more or less for the old lady so she can handle it.

LMO.. Be sure and get a box of low recoil loads for it. They tame down the pistol grip quite well.. Ron

Does it include any of the receiver parts? Bolt, etc? If by receiver and barrel you mean "it needs a stock and forend" then it sounds like a good deal. If it needs the trigger group, bolt/carrier, etc, then probably not as good of a deal. Cheap complete 870s are hard to find.

I would rethink the #8 shot for defensive use, buck or slug is a much better choice.
