My LGS has been packed full of people as of late so even getting to talk to one of the salesmen is tough. My LGS does stock LMT, Colt, DD, S&W and the usual "other" brands. I saw some LWRC examples in there today priced to sell at the low low price of $2400 each...
Its hit or miss with the actual salesmen, some are good and know what they are talking about and some have no clue and just want to tell the customer whatever to get the sale.

I think most of the time, you are better off just leaving well enough alone. It's highly likely that the guy buying the RRA or whatever else we think is inferior is going to be completely happy with it.

That's a little harsh. Not everyone reads forums and researches everything about ARs. Some people are new gun owners and they don't know the amount of good info that's online. They walk into a gun store expecting the employee to know his shit. Hopefully, they eventually learn that idiots exist behind the store counter too.

Now those that know forums like M4C exist, and willfully ignore proven facts to keep buying shit brands to justify their initial purchase? Yeah those guys deserve whatever shit they buy.

Think outside of the M4C box for a second. There is a market for everything, no matter how inferior we think they are to the top tier brands.
    This leaves only two options:
    1. the employee, then, is flat out lying to support his boss
    2. the employee actually does not know shit from brown bread

    Neither are favorable.

This is true of all things. Most people simply trust the person that is selling them something, which has to be one of the stupidest things anyone can do. I don't care if it's a car, a washing machine, or a set of drafting pens, when I show up at the store to buy something I'm going to know more about it than the person selling it to me, and if I don't I am DAMN sure going to verify everything they tell me and will not be buying that day.

My local gunstore guys are super knowledgeable, but they don't carry anything but RRA, Stag, DPMS, and Occasionally a Colt. So I venteured two hours to a place dreams are made:-) They had Dozens and Dozens of AR's you could actually touch and handle, carried all the rifles I was looking at, and had a ton of accessories, made me a great deal on two LMT's and my salesman still e-mails me, 3 weeks later! If it wasn't 2 hours away i would be there 3 days a week and be way poorer. I can't speak highly enough about them, every step of the process was amazing!

I'm not sure if I can post this but I will and if it's wrong by all means delete it!

I have been to dozens of gun shops, and this is by far a few steps ahead of the others, they negotiate pricing, and absolutely know the product.

That's kind of the beauty of a free market. "Best" is subjective. If you walk into a Chevy dealership the Chevy is best. Walk into a GMC dealership the GMC is best.

It's really up to the customer to do their own homework. And that should consist of balancing information from all possible sources, including the LGS.

If I walked into a LGS I would expect them to push what they sell and more specifically what they had in stock. Why would you expect anything different?

Have you walked into a LGS and told them you wanted to buy the best AR on the market and they told you "Well we only sell junk so you should buy a Colt, DD or BCM instead?"

The fact that we tolerate that kind of crap is the crux of the problem. It's easier for people to just say "well, that's the way it is" and accept lying, cheating, and stealing than it is to try to change it.

But what is the problem? That LGS's sell lower tier brands that likely make their customers just as happy as a 'BCM' makes us?

I drank the cool aid too, but I didn't think I joined a religious cult.

It's one thing to push the product you carry. It's another thing to represent something as it's not.
