Average person isn't buying to go to war or serve warrants to anyone with the local SWAT team. They are buying to go to the range, show off to their friends or perhaps get into a new hobby. When you bought your first car, did you buy a Corvette, shiney new truck, Ferrari or Benz? No, of course not, it was your first, so you bought a car that ran, was shiny and was damn proud of even having a car. Hell, you might have had to fix it up befroe you could even drive it, I know I did. So with that in mind, what the hell is the differance if the new guy buys a lower "teir"(less expensive) rifle to start out with? He shoots it, talks to others at the range, learns whats good and bad and maybe next time moves up the food chain. Christ almighty, you'd think by buying a cheaper...or not one of the holy rifles droned on about here someone commetted murder or something. Point is, everyone starts somewhere and ends up somewhere else. Some people research a bit before buying, some jump in with both feet, either way gets you in the game and maybe, just maybe will stay in it for a lifetime.
And if we supported these cheaper purchaces and patted them on the back then we would just like........wait for it......TOS.

And on your second point, do you have any idea how many people may have bought one of the POS brands and been so turned off by it that they gave up on the AR system and searched for some other plateform? My guess is probably more than a few. Many people take it personally if their weapon shits the bed and will want to cut ties to it.

With the difference in prices between a POS and a upper level AR brand it is not enough $$$ to be an excuse to purchase the POS in the first place. Now if the problem is they are "old school" and expect to walk into their LGS and walk out with an AR and all they find is the POS brands and the LGS pushes them as "just as good as" or "better than" then I can understand a little better. Other wise no, a POS is a POS.

    Just IMHO, BTW.

read most of this thread and I have to say something , this argument is really dumb, it is like fairy stickers=(flyfishermen) they have to have this and that and orvis this and loomis that well guess what i use cabelas fish eagle 2 rods and out fish them 10 to 1 and i wanted to ar's i wanted a m4 and a A2 so instead of paying RRA or whoever to build them for me i spent all of 2 hours researching makers and bought all my stuff from Palmento state armory and built them myself and i will put them against anything else in a like ar platform gun for quality and reliability.... my point.. some folks don't have to have the xyz brand or quality to enjoy the product and then some folks do..... if you buy a pig in a polk and you want to get better you do the work to learn but most folks just want to shoot a AR and would not know the difference this thread speaks of.... and of course this is all just my opinion...

Just curious, do you think capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar are all dumb, too?

    Maybe it's just me...

I think this thread is getting a bit off track. The OP has had bad experiences at the LGS. I wanted to share that I have had good experiences at "my" LGS. They never tried to get me to buy any particular weapon, they simply say "here's what we have, pick up whatever you want to look at".

Also, they politely indicated that the BM Carbon-15 might not be a wise purchase.

Consider yourself lucky, anytime I want smoke blown up my ass all I have to do is visit any of a number of LGS in my area. It is bad enough that I can't recall asking a question in one of my LGS in years. I now simply walk in and ask "do you have xxx in stock". And even this is a very rare occasion as I mostly order from the likes of G&R, BCM, Larue etc etc.

This thread just reminded me of a situation a few years ago. A customer came into a LGS while I was searching for something and wanted to see a certain model of Sig, a P226 I think. The shop had a used one on the shelf, a WELL used one. The salesprick pulled it out and started going on how near new it was, "it may never have even been fired", "it doesn't even have any 'smilies' on the barrel". The whole time I'm thinking that I've only seen one other Sig that was more worn than this one. This kind of shit pisses me off, big time. These pricks should be prosecuted for the crap they try to pass off.

    Sorry, rant off.

I have been to dozens of gun shops, and this is by far a few steps ahead of the others, they negotiate pricing, and absolutely know the product.

Hahaha. Big Steve! Great dude. I'd urge anyone to contact him for any items they may need. Especially if you're from MI. There's no reason NOT to deal with Steve and company at Silver Bullet if you live in western Michigan. When I was last in, they had the suppressors rolling, now that MI law changed.

Silver Bullet is the business as far as LGSs go. The quote above saying "where dreams are made" is about the truth. I got to check out their gunsmith's 1911 work - and it was great. He is a younger guy, and I see big things in his gunsmithing future.

There's a few members on m4c who work there. Anyways, I'll end the side rant. Just check them out if you're in the Grand Rapids area. You won't regret it.

Continue bitching about the locals. I've got a slew of stories of my own, but I won't put anyone on blast. If you want to save yourself the headache, buy from folks like G&R, BCM, SKD, Rainier, etc.

    ETA :

I say this as someone who always buys local whenever possible. I think it's great to support local business - whether it's paying a few bucks more at the LGS or a few cents more on produce at the local market. HOWEVER, there's a serious difference between broccoli and ARs. If your LGS doesn't stock good equipment AND offer solid advice (read : not butter you up, give good advice) - then go online.

Remember too, most shops make more off range time, ammo, gunsmithing, classes, and accessories then they do on firearms.

I have an indoor range about a mile from my house. I asked this past weekend while shooting after hours with the workers why they only carry "Glocks and Garbage" - like many small gunshops. They said the inventory cost on items like high end 1911s, HKs, etc is way too high in comparison to their margins. Remember, business is all about margins. Online dealers hit a larger market and move more inventory - which allows them smaller margins per unit and still maintain profitability (without even getting into the brick and mortar aspect).

My personal favorites are the brick and mortar stores that run a business online as well (Rainier, G&R, etc). Best of both worlds - especially for the locals.

Also keep in mind there may be incentives to move certain guns. I was told years back that Springfield was paying a $50 commission for every XD sold. NO IDEA if this is true, but a LGS employee did claim this - so take it with a grain of salt. Others who work in firearm sales may be able to say more on this.

The insult as you say is to the topic not the posters and in case you have not noticed this is a gun forum not English 101 you can take a dig at me for spelling etc.(I can take it) but at least address what i said I mean after all it is like arguing caliber's, cars, or the color of women's hair this club is not just a exclusive club for the rich there are some of us poor illiterate types you know.. and we like to shoot as well . not trying to argue here just saying there are all types of folks who shoot and no matter what the topic some will have better equipment ,knowledge, and skills, it is just the way the world works..
