Colt AR15 rifles, we have SP1's, Gov't Model A1 and A2's but most of ours are older than dirt and used 24/7, my Agency hasn't bought new weapons in probably 20+ years. Then again we are also still carrying S&W .357 magnums as well.

We are prohibited from using personal weapons, so we are stuck with what we have.
For me BTDT, has turned into BTFT (Been There F*ck That).

There WAS a program where the Federal government offered state and local law enforcement agencies surplus M16s previously issued to our military. All of these were originally full auto or 3 shot burst lowers.

Many departments opted to purchase updated uppers and many disabled the burst or full auto capabilities (nevertheless, these were restricted .gov ONLY guns even if the auto function was disabled).

Many departments opted not to participate. I believe the program has now ended.
This program still exists. My local Sheriffs Dept just got 35 or 37 of them.

I couldn't have said it better myself (so I'll be more longwinded instead;-)

Our Office issues Colt LE 6920's and that is the only rifle authorised to be carried (by SWAT...patrol still uses the MP5). I'm the only one on our department (to my knowledge) that has been authorised to buy a personal AR on an agency letterhead (I think because I'm the only person who's asked. And it's not to be used on duty). The LE 6920 was the only gun I was authorised to buy (I'm not complaining, I love it). Someday down the road they might start letting our officers carry personal weapons on patrol and I can pretty much guarantee you it'll be a 6920 or nothing.

I'm sad to see how much they've come up in price. The store where I purchased mine for $970 only three years ago is now selling them for $1195...
