I grew up hunting in IN. Back then we had to use shotguns, muzzleloader, or pistol. I have since moved but my family still lives back there. One of my uncles ditched the shotgun the first chance he could and bought a lever action 45LC and hunted one season with that. I talked him into getting the .458 Socom upper for his old Colt AR-15A1 style rifle. He jumped at the chance and hasn't looked back. Now he is looking at getting a wildcat based off of a WSSM cartridge with a .358 caliber bullet. I forget the name but it seems to be very popular there in IN.

I believe it's simply known as the .358 Hoosier.
