    Trijicon ACOG TA55 ?

I have been eyeballing a Trijicon TA55 ACOG for my BCM 20".
I have several ACOG's on my other rifles.
I just wanted someone thar has had or have this optic. To give me some info as to how you like it and is it worth it or would a Trijicon Accupiont 5-20x50 be better.
I know they are both excellent.
    Just want some opinions.

    Thanks

Would a 5.5x fixed power optic with a BDC be "better" than a long range oriented 5-20X precision rifle scope? Is this what you really mean to ask?

Which is better, a Porsche or a Ford F-150? The key question becomes, "for what?"

I should have never even asked.
Instead of smart ass answers. Why can't you just answer with a normal reply?

You asked a question that I think is unanswerable in its current form. I thought maybe you left out the part of the question that would make it answerable by accident. Hence, "is this what you mean to say," or do you need to rethink your question so that it includes some kind of framing about what the optic will be used for. Then, in case you still didn't understand why you'd need to specify an intended use for somebody to be able to answer the question, I drew a parallel to a common point of understanding...vehicles.

And after all that, you still haven't provided an intended use for your rifle / optic so that recommendations can be made.

In direct terms: What will this rifle / optic combination be primarily used for and in what environment? What are your wants and needs?

For a 5.56 AR, I interpret that to mean 300-1000 (yes, 1000 is a stretch). Does that align with your definition of mid to long range?

Are you paper punching from a bench, where you just need to carry it from your car to the range, or are you carrying this rifle for long periods of time? Are you a varmint hunter? Are you a border patrol agent doing patrols along the barren border? Are close range "chance contacts" a concern? Do you plan to shoot at things that can shoot back? What are your precision requirements?

No offense but you need to put a little more thought into your question if you want good answers that are actually helpful.

    Sorry for the vage question.
I intend to use it for 100-1000 yards. Shooting at thong that shot back. Pretty much a sniper setup.
CQB I have that covered with other rifles and shotguns.

Does anybody have a link to check the serial #'s on a ACOG?

    That sounds dangerous.

But, seriously, a decent rule of thumb is 1X magnification for every 100 units of distance (yards or meters). If you were just into benchrest shooting, I would tell you to go for maximum high end magnification as one of your chief considerations. Since that's not your primary purpose for this gun, factors like size and weight factor more strongly into the equation. 20X is likely a bit excessive for man sized targets at ranges that 5.56 is effective. But I also don't think the fixed 5.5X power ACOG is the right answer for you either...far from it actually.

I should have asked what your price limit was. Let me know and I'll link you to a few options to get you started on what I would consider the right path.

I am not a fan of the TA55.
I would definately look into a "real" optic more suited for the job.
Decent 3-9s, and even some decent 1-6s (or 1.5-6s) will fall in at a lower price.
The main benefits of the ACOG line (size and weight) are completely lost on the 55. I hate the 31 and NSN ACOGs, but I would rather have them any day over the 55.
