    Forged 1911

What would happen if a 1911 was stamped from forged steel like the AK's

I thought the 1911 was forged as opposed to a stamped sheet metal AK?

If it were stamped, then it would most likely be like some SIG P226's that as I recall had a stamped slide

Parts are just stamped but the metal used is first forged making it stronger and thats why stamped lasts longer than milled

    Absolutely classic.

To the OP - Being that the 1911 has been around for well over a 100 years, the platform has pretty much reached it's engineering peak. I can't imagine after a century that there'd be any significant improvements that could affect the performance of the 1911. It all comes down to quality of materials and machining tolerances.
