    Quick Trijicon ACOG ?

A buddy of mine wanted to know the date his ACOG was manufactured. So I called Trijicon and gave them the serial #'s on TH top. They said it was sold to the Military back in Feb. 2005.
Then today he got a email saying this.

    Good Morning

He bought this back in 2007 at a local gun shop.
Should he be concerned or just forget about it since it was purchased at a gunshot and not from a individual?

    Thanks

I would take it back to the shop and demand a refund or exchange.
Otherwise, he is most likely going to lose the cash he paid if the optic is indeed stolen government property, which is highly likely given that the military doesn't make a habit of DRMOing current issue items that work.

Does he have the store receipt still from the original purchase? Could be helpful in this kind of situation.

Well he called the gunshop and they said they check the serial #'s prior to selling it and report that info to the sheriff's office. Nothing came back on it being stolen.
But the guy at the shop said bring the serial number in and they would go back and find it.
I think if they took it in they would have checked to see if it was an individual or issued ACOG.

Then why would Trijicon say that they sold it to the military?
    Something isn't adding up.
Further, unless the Sherriff's office contacted every unit in the US military or Trijicon, they would have no idea where the optic came from.

    So on a serious note.
If the gun shop logs in serial #'s and reports them.
Then there should be no worries about black suits coming to take it. And my friend being out of a lot of money. He bought it back in 2006 and has the reciet. So I would say he is clear of whatever is going on. I told him not to worry about it. If the shop said bring in the serial # and they would go back in the system and try to find it, then what's to worry about? Plus he has the recite to prove he bought it from there.

Doesn't matter if he has a receipt; if he is in possession of stolen government property it will be confiscated.
The only people that have the records of who bought and owns the optic (initial purchaser) is Trijicon and the military (if bought by them).

If the optic was not DRMO'd (the process by which damaged/obscolete gear is turned into money for the .mil) then it is still government property, and it will be returned to the military. These are facts.

My point is that if your buddy doesn't want to chance getting his optic confiscated, which to me sounds highly likely since it sounds highly likely to have been stolen, he should take it back to the store and get something worth what he paid for.

I really don't care what you or your buddy does, but I know what the government is going to do, and what I would do in the same situation.

I would have to agree with F2S on this one. I have participated in regular DRMO runs while in the military. Faulty, obsolete, defective, broken, out of service or otherwise heaps are the only items that seem to make it through the DRMO system. If it's not stolen I would be suprised. I would tell your buddy to cut his losses...or he could wait out the investigation.

So if he goes to the shop where he purchased it. And has the recite. What if they refuse to give the money payed or exchange it for something of equal value?
    Then what would you do?
