Jer hard to tell from pics but appears the left picture was an original finish if so you spent money to refinish a pistol that was worth 1200 bucks for a pistol with a resultant value of 700 bucks. Collectors value goes in the toilet with post military service refinish. Do not get me wrong the refinish was well done and the pistol will make a good shooter ( provided you don't buy into the idea you should not shoot the ww one era guns which had non heat treated slides) but the value as a classic collectible was definitely damaged by your efforts

It's not mine but I do like the refinish. I also understand that this isn't a priceless firearm and maybe he didn't want to refinish it for the profit it would bring him. Maybe he would rather have a firearm he was proud to show to people while he was actually shooting the thing and telling them that it's a 1911 from three years after it was created. To me, that's pretty darn cool. Not everyone wants to own a rusted pitted pile o poo because of the few hundred extra dollars it's worth to a collector. I get why he did it and I applaud him for doing it. It's a window into the day it was held proudly by it's first owner which to me is cool. I'm sure when he holds it to actually shoot it he feels similar.

    Looks like a Dawson.

Bolt-on unit designed for 1911s back when rails were uncommon on 1911s but handgun mounted lights were beginning to catch on. And really caught on when MEUSOC and later MARSOC needed a way to attach their SureFires to their rebuilt USGI M1911A1s. I believe that Dawson axed them a few years ago due to low sales (on account of the availability of 1911s with rails, I imagine).

    Correct. Rail installed by Dawson.

Thanks guys. I knew the history of the bolt on rails, just didn't know which brand that one was. It's looking like the only available bolt on rail is from Novak.
