You call, you generally get the guy who is whittling on your gun. They aren't the cheapest, but they are top-tier. I have nothing bad to say about anyone else, I just like the guys at Novaks. I dropped into their shop one day and they showed me around. They are in the basement of this old house in a tiny town in West Virginia. I came by unannounced and they still were incredibly gracious. Hell, they knew who I was and showed me all kinds of goodies in Wayne's collection. You could tell they didn't get a lot of visitors. Hell, their shop is almost impossible to find, the people at the gas station across the street had no idea what I was talking about. A lot of people in the gun business are real type A-hole personalities--not these guys.

I had the following work performed...

    Crown Barrel
Replace All Springs: Recoil, Firing Pin, Main, Sear, & Plunger Tube Springs
Inspection of all Components for Serviceability
    Test Fire with 50 rounds
Novak LoMount Plain Black Wide Notch Rear Sight
    Novak Tritium Front Night Sight
    Novak Logo Marked on Slide
    N.M. Barrel Bushing
    Carry Bevel Treatment
Novak Hammer Kit (Cmdr Style Hammer)
    Fit Extended Beavertail Grip Safety
    Fit Extended Strong Side Safety
    Fit Aluminum Trigger
    Bevel Magazine Well
    Lower & Scallop Ejection Port
    Novak Practical Grip Screws
    Refinish
    Bead Blast & Blue
    checker front strap
    solder plunger tube
Wow, I thought Novaks was a much bigger operation given their history in the firearms business and their reputation for what they do! And to be clear I wasn't implying that you should have gone with someone else, I was just wondering what closed the deal for you to go with them. Thanks for explaining, and superb pistol once again!

Oh, I understood. I just wanted to brag on the guys. They are perfect--big enough to do what they need to but small enough to give a crap about a customer.
If you aren't armed when you take a dump in your own home then your opinion on what is a practical daily carry weapon isn't interesting to me.

They do really nice work. I had a 4506 years ago that had been gone through by Novaks. It was a great shooter and the fit and finish was top notch.

That exact set up, done by Novak's is what I consider the ideal Colt Series 70.
NOT in training for combat deployment.

Steve at Mars refinished the slide. It has a subdued two tone look to it now...I'm diggin' it.

Here's some pics of my now departed S&W 1911SC. Eventually I'll replace it with a gov't model, internal extractor, all steel 1911. It was incredibly easy to conceal though.
