I have a Kimber TLE II. I'm looking for a magwell and like the look of the one you're not using. Would you be interested in selling it to me?

Or maybe I might have something you might like in trade?

    Thanks,

It was on consignment at a local gun shop and I decided to buy it because I wanted an older model. Unfortunately there were serious problems with it. It had numerous FTF's and FTE's. Long story short, I sent it to Colt's custom shop and had them repair it.

They were able to do the repair as well as do a reliability package and sent back the test results. This it the target they sent. What was remarkable was the fact they went the extra mile and tested it with both FMJ's (which is what this target is and JHP's. They indicated that the JHP's (230 gr) were shooting a bit high and suggested using a 185 gr to compensate. That's what I call service. By the way, the whole job took only about 4 weeks round trip and that included installing Trijicon sights.

Sweet old 1911. I didn't have the pateince to purchase an older 1911 and make it work for my first 1911. I wanted something that worked straight out of the box plus a warrantee is nice. However I wouldn't mind some day get an older Colt as a project.

I joined the Army, when I took the service exam my psych profile fit a certain moral flexibility.

I will probably send this one to Steve Morrision for a "Retro" package, eventually.

I want one to do the exact same thing with except I want the Axiom package with a 10-8 National Match rear sight!

I had been carrying an S&W 4516 for years and decided to go to a full sized .45 after my retirement so the issue of not having a weapon at hand wasn't one. However, I really didn't do as much research as I should have before buying this Colt that was a consignment gun. I pretty much trusted the gun shop. It was the fact that it was an older Colt that intrigued me. It was a bit more trouble and money than I wanted to spend, both for the firearm and the repairs, but in the long run it worked out and I'm pleased, so far. I haven't had a chance to really test fire it yet, but that will be done soon.

    Dave;

You have to stop posting photos of this gun. My "Black Army" is with Steve right now for an Axiom build like yours with a few small changes. Your gun makes me lust for it to be done every time I see it.

If it was a Colt production pistol I might agree, but based upon history, Talo pistols are not what I would consider "collectible"... I will say that they are getting better with what they choose to build, they used to be gaudy, shiny and ugly... Some of there latest offering are actually quite nice. The only thing I'm not crazy bout on the A1 is the TS...

I'm thinking just doing the following to mine:

    Better front sight (w/ tritium)
    Widen/deepen the rear sight notch
Replace all MIM parts (I think there are only 3, the sear & mag catch being 2 of them)
    Stake plunger tube
    Bevel magwell
Replace MSH with a straight serrated one
Spare parts fitted (3 extractors, 1 slide stop, 1 oversized FP stop & anything else the smith recommends)
    Better fitting bushing
    Reliability job

That's it on the list for now! I'll even keep the stock grips, as they'd have to be splintered the F up to affect function IMO!

Thank you. I think you have assembled a pretty solid basis for a duty built pistol.... I would consider ditching both sights though, but that's just me. The YOBO rear would be a nice option and it would retain the "retro" look.

MD # 008 spent the first day of the year on the range. Here are some pics after that range session. This gun now has around 1,000 rounds through it.
