Whats the story with pics #2 and #3. They're very nicely done, and they're obviously custom. But, you wanted grip on the frontstrap, but didn't spec any kind of traction-enhancement?

They are not custom. I did the beavertail, ambi safety (personal preference) and triggers/hammer install . I would like to checker the front strap but just don't have the courage to do so. As to the sight cut on pic 3, the slide was sent to Novak.Originally Posted by theJanitor

Dig'em both man, but like the SPRINGFIELD better... I like the all black.... Finish is awesome on both too!
I have to say, I don't ever recall seeing a Rock Island with such a nice finish as yours has!...?

Only the slide is Rock Island. The RIA slide started as a typical grayish black parkerized finish. Sent to Novak for sight cut. Don't know what Novak did but it came back with a very nice semi gloss black finish.Hey ess45,

Here's my bro-in-law's USMC roll-marked CQBP pistol that he acquired before they took out the SSE. I really like the serial number on this one.
Going back up north, I had ordered 2 sets of A1 grips from simpsonltd and they are hit and miss. One panel would not fit and had already shrunk, another one had a crack, neverthless, they sent me the replacements and it turned out great. I had replaced all its small parts from vintage A1s years ago.
The piece below is the range gun. Btw, these are Colt O1911A1 WW2 repros.
