Holy hell. That's simply amazing the amount of things "wrong" with that pistol but it keeps going.

stop drilling cracks is standard practice in aviation so not surprising it would work on a slide. relieve the stress concentration and the crack doesn't propagate.

overall impressive in how that gun has kept going though

Great post from Ned! The target proves a super tight 1911 is not required to get rounds where they need to go with the right shooter on the gun. I have friends that have been shooting the same Colt since the early 70's with six figure round counts that are still holding up fine. This was long before everyone talked or even thinked about spring replacement intervals like they do today.

It does seem to defy many bits of conventional wisdom. He says he will dig out the Ransom Rest and give it a try.

For a year now I've had .010 shims cut to test this gun by shimming the slide lft and down, group it, then shim it right and up, and group it. This will be tedious as the shims obviously will have to be reset after each shot but should be an interesting test.

STI 9mm with FRAG frontstrap and mainspring housing, proprietary FRAG grips made from Maclura Pomifera, AKA....

Left side. Without Googling the Latin name, who can name this wood?

Left side again, a little further out.

Left side, full view. Now the truth comes out…. Compensator! This is really just a fancy thread protector but I figured why not make it do double duty.... anyway the customer is into many, OK, every, kind of shooting including bowling pin and steel shooting.

    Right hand side full view…..

Seven rounds, 50 yards yesterday. Jeff has done more long-range 1911ing than anyone I know. 300-meter pop-ups are not too far to try it—and I’ve seen him connect often enough that it is not luck. This is all from standing, no rest.
well he better be good if he's spent $60,000 on ammunition through one gun.

Probably more like $20K - $25K over those years, that round count is 95% 200 SWC handloads in the 800-850 FPS range.
