I'm not an AK guy, but that sure looks pretty. Nice Job!

Wow that came out great. Nice toy Steve.
Sad, that it takes someone else to tell you your life is worth protecting and that you are the one ultimately responsible for it.

I just signed up Templar. I'm not quite digging the style of the forum though. Brings back bad memories...

OK. I really want one of these. I have no idea how to build one and to be totally honest would not attempt it. so the questions are; Who could build it? What parts kit is recommended? Can it be built, shipped to me and w/ a fake can to be worn until I can get it SBR'ed? And last, about how much $$ to build?

    Thanks in advance.

You can certainly have it built with a fake can on it so you don't have to SBR it.....

    Get a kit:

Get a receiver.......I'd wait on the DCI AKS-74 receivers, they're almost out:

If you're going to have it built as a standard rifle, you'll need some US parts so it's considered a US manufactured rifle.

    Receiver
    Hammer
    Trigger
    Disconnector
    Pistol grip
    Gas piston

There are some really good smiths out there who do great work on AK's.

I'd add Derek Huffman at Arizona Expert Arms to this list:

You're probably looking at between $1500-$2000.00 for the completed rifle.

    Hope that helps.

Templar, thanks again. I'm assuming the $1500-$2000 est. was including a parts kit? If so KVar sells several kits. Which one would be the best to use? This gun would be strictly a shooter, not wall hanger.

The kit I linked to is the standard 5.45mm Krink, which is what I'd use. You'll need to scrounge a trigger guard from somewhere, ask your smith where to look.

The price I threw out should include buying the kit and parts and then labor.

We need pics when you get yours running!

I'd def. provide pix. I might get another '74 as a shooter to hold me until then. What would you recommend as a starter that is gtg as is? Thanks again.
