    44 auto-mag

My hunting partner has had one sitting around since the late 60's or early 70's that he purchased for under $200. We dusted it off yesterday with 240 grain .44AMP reloads from AARDVARK Laboratories in Florida.

His is the stainless steel version with two barrels: .44AMP & .357AMP

Oh my god it takes a man and 1/2 to friggin lock the bolt open. Was amazed at how sweet it was to shoot and especially the recoil. The recoil is really very light, nothing of what I was expecting. We shot about 45 rounds and only issue was the magazine release button, constantly sticking open. Going to give a good cleaning today and shoot the remaining 155 rounds.

Can't imagine carrying that around hunting, just too heavy and especially if a scope is added.

EDIT: Tonight I realized there isn't any serial number on the barrels and or frame. Checked for any hint of serial number removal and nothing.

Wonder what that means? Other than he will have a bitch of a time selling or transferring in his home state of NJ.

Before Dirty Harry, the the .44 Automag was used by Mack Bolan in the Executioner action novels by Don Pendelton.

That's a beautiful pistol! Ammo was originally made by cutting down 308 brass and reaming the inside. I really wanted one of these pistols when they came out
    INSIDE PLAN OF BOX
    1. ROAD-RUNNER LIFTS GLASS OF WATER- PULLING UP MATCH
    2. MATCH SCRATCHES ON MATCH-BOX
    3. MATCH LIGHTS FUSE TO TNT
    4. BOOM!
    5. HA-HA!!

Wow, very nice. I would love to shoot one someday. Closest I'll get though is my friends Coonan .357. Nice pistol.

In the James Bond novels by James Gardner, Bond carried a Super Blackhawk 44 in a hidden compartment. Spies always know the stopping power for cars with a 44.

This could be an issue unless it was made before 1968.

Man, that brings back memories. I have a box full of Mack Bolans, at least 50 of 'em. Right next to a box full of Conan, another box of Tarzan...you get the picture.

As to the Automag, I had the pleasure of shooting my friend's dad's back in the late 80s. Always had it on my list but have never gotten around to it. Something else always comes up. Haven't seen one in years, it's great to see pics of one getting some use.
