It's not- especially if the rail and low profile gas block are already there.

If you have to be issued a weapon, MILSPEC is good. If you can buy your own, buy the most that you can afford and don't worry as much about getting every little detail "milspec." There are a lot of items on the N4 that are better than just "milspec."

Yes, things can make it better- sights, optics, etc. but that's not what we were going to talk about here.

One of the nice things about this upper is the barrel. You can't get that elsewhere.

John Noveske only builds quality stuff.

A Colt 6921 would be a good choice if you live in a free state.

the n4 is what i have been looking at for a little while as a new upper. i am looking to get every thing it offers but i am not sure if there may be somthing i can do to upgrade it to just make it a little better. i know i can put optics, light, etc on the n4 but i am wondering more about the bolt or somthing like that. i want reliability more than any thing just like the guy who started the thred does. i am just looking for more info on this from u guys.

The N4 upper already has MP'd bolt, "F" marked FSB and staked auto bolt carrier, etc... Not much to improve on IMO.

you want to make a factory rifle more reliable? That already has a particle tested bolt, properly staked carrier, and proper chambered barrel?

    Feed it good ammo.

    Clean it.

    Repeat.

What in your mind is "better"? We'd have to know to answer the question......

Let me tell you what Larry Vickers told us in the low light class held in November....

For the person looking to buy a good rifle that out of the box offers a good shot at offering reliable service the advice was, and I quote:

    "Buy a Colt [6920] and don't f*ck with it."

There are other fine options on the market, but for someone looking for their first general purpose self defense carbine that's the simplest answer.

It's not "silly". It's less than optimal. Drilling, pinning, and/or soldering on a perfectly good barrel is a crime to me.
