    Prepped for Tornado Bugout

Well it's that season time again. We are currently under Tornado Watch here, but soon to be Tornado Warnings. As you can see the pics got some weird scalloped clouds

    Nasty Radar

Bugout Kit: My 6920 & Wife's Mini-14 with 1000 rds .223/5.56, 2 shotguns with 100 Shells, Cleaning Kit. What makes this so easy to do in one trip is the "climbers clasp" or whatever they are called. Got it at WallyWorld and hooks all the cases together to get it out in one package. The ammo cans will be cargo strapped with the other clasp.
Just need to make a second trip to get the three hounds (2 of which will get in by themselevs) in the truck then head out. Already have 2 cases of water and a MRE case in the truck at all times with a smathering of ammo that we usually have incase we go to the range on a whim.

Just got bored here waiting and thought I would share

I live in hurricane, not tornado, country but I have a question. I thought SOP for tornadoes was get into a solid shelter and stay out of vehicles. Not getting what the plan is here,

Is storm chasing a new AFSC?

    They're called carabiners.

I'm guessing he is massing the gear to move to his shelter in case the house was about to get hit?

    Are these your ready guns?

If so you may need to reassess your planing a bit as they don't appear to be ready for immediate use.
We are all inclined to judge ourselves by our ideals; others, by their acts.

We live in a manufactured home community and nothing even with the slight resemblance of shelter. And instead of going safe hunting after the storm, we take our version of the 3 gun setup. The line at bottom left did spawn a pencil thin tornado. Luckily it just touch down in the fields about 3 miles from the house. We kept the radar up the whole time and as soon as we heard the sirens we loaded up and headed south until the all clear.

The shotgun in the green scabbard and the 6920 is in the black case on the right. The handle is a way to grab everything at once to get it to the truck to hit a lil green clip on the scabbard and unzip just the ass end of the black case and pull them out to be at the ready. Both are loaded, but not chambered. The only weapons that are chambered are our CCWs.

That is a def fact. The house construction is identical to a regular house with the exception on being basically on 2 53' flatbed trailers. In either case 2x6s and drywall will not stand up to a tornado. The only thing that would be good is a basement, but I don't like the idea of a house collapsing and sitting on my head. And of course there aren't any basements here. There is a concrete company here that have shelters here ranging from a closet size to a one car garage size. Just have to stop by one day to get the sticker shock.

Re: the sticker shock on the underground shelters, all I can tell you is this.
I worked some disaster relief after the tornadoes came through Alabama last year. I promise you that those who rode out the tornadoes in their shelters will tell you that the shelters were worth every penny. And those who did not have them, are now in the market for one.

I talked with one elderly lady who had a large tornado run directly over the top of her underground shelter and her account is just plain eerie and chilling! If I lived in a location where tornadoes were a regular occurrence, I would be scrounging the money for a shelter. Might be the best money you ever spend. Just sayin.

Eta: FWIW - I am all about having the pistola handy all the time. Having been through 40 years worth of hurricanes and other storms, I have never seen long guns come in to play in the immediate aftermath of a storm. In fact, most people are either stunned or pitching in to help out others. It is in the days after the storm that things get a bit more western. Even then, the long guns end up being mostly for show or a deterrent. The whole "you loot, we shoot" thing. What I am saying is that you might grab something of greater utility than three or four long guns. I'm thinking food, clothing, bedding, vital documents.

I agree that the shelters are worth every penny, Ive been through 3 hurricanes with Camille being the worst. Lived in the OK and MO seen the aftermath and been on security and cleanup details from tornados.

I guess I should have clearified on the "The only weapons that are chambered are our CCWs" to I will be wearing my .45 and the wife will be with her .380 duo.

When I started this thread, it was the first time I used the clip and thought it cool to be able to get 4 cased gun out the door in one whack without having to carry 2 and fighting the other 2 falling off my shoulder.

We have inside a 2X3' plastic foot locker in the truck at all times. With the doubles of everything.: Army wool blanket, clothes and other stuff an next to water and ammo, the most important thing in the world, CHARMIN haha

Camille huh? You're showing your age there. . I think I was one or two when she hit. My first real go was with Frederick. Tornadoes freak me out.
