    Medical supplies

    Hi everyone,

I have always thought something that many people over look in a shtf situation is medical supplies. I'm not talking about extensive first aid kits and topical products, but medications like antibiotics and steroids and the like. In a situation where medical help is nor a doctors visit away, an animal bite or a dirty cut could result in the loss of someone's life so my question is, does anyone know of a way to get prescription strength meds without having then prescribed to you? (please take note, I'm not asking about controlled substances or things to get high off of, but things like antibiotics or steroids as mentioned above)

I've thought of looking at agriculture stores but I'm not sure what would be available with what is available.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

There's a doctor on www.survivalblog.com that says he sells antibiotics to preppers.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if animal antibiotics are safe for use in humans. If so a pet store may be a source. But only if safe.

That window of opportunity has closed. As of April not any longer unless you go to Branson MO and visit Dr. Bob Olson in person.

Depends on the particular type. This is all covered pretty well on SurvivalBlog. Do yourself a favor and download the 2005-2011 SurvivalBlog archive. It'll be the best $10 you've spent in a while, I assure you

By definition aren't medications that require a prescription considered controlled substances?
As posted above 'fishmox' can be purchased at some farm supply stores/pet stores, and if I recall correctly it is similar to amoxicillin. It will be labeled 'not for human consumption', but I have taken it 2-3 times and it worked.
Here in Kommiefornia our legislature recently passed a law that will close that resource . . . probably due to lobbying by the pharmaceutical companies.

Most of the time, people get better without antibiotics. Something like 90% of all upper respiratory infections are viral. In my practice I hesistate to give them unless the person has some really convincing physical findings.

So the questions is, would have you have gotten better anyway?

To the OP, lots of overseas fish "pharmacies" will sell to the US. I don't condone it, endorse it, or practice it. If you're interested, I leave it to you to do the legwork. Don't come to me if you grow a fin or start flopping around and suffocating on the floor.

    That is sooo funny.

You are correct. Antibiotics are so over prescribed in the US. People read on the internet that they have Hantavirus when they have a cold and most doctors will give them a Zpak just to shut them up.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.
