I was being sarcastic, but my point is that you guys seem to be the ones worried about assigning blame. I personally don't care which part is out of spec. What I care about is making sure it works and that in my moment of impatience last night, I didn't do any real harm. As long as my receiver isn't harmed (from the feedback here, seems like it is fine) and the bolt catch now fits, I don't really care.

It isn't about blame, it is about knowledge. Don't you think that other people buying RRA LPK's would like to know if there is an issue with installing them in stripped lowers (that are not RRA)???

I've built half a dozen lowers with RRA LPK's in lowers from RRA, Bushmaster, CMMG and now RA. This is the first time I've ever had an issue.

Not every single RRA, BM or DPMS lpk is out of spec, but the chances are much higher than with Colt or others of high quality.

I'd say one out of six is a pretty bad percentage. Actually, it's a very bad percentage. This is why many of choose quality. I've seen this more than once. Also, my guess is that Rainier Arms is a little better quality than RRA, Bushmaster or CMMG. Not saying it can't be the lower, but I've heard of a hell of a lot more RRA lpk's being out of spec than I have decent quality lowers.

    - I've assembled at least a dozen lowers with Colt's lower parts kit. I've not had one out of spec part. I have seen out of spec factory RRA rifles though, including take down pins and trigger/hammer pins.

Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

Sir, it doesn't really matter which part is out of spec. As a general rule of thumb though (and your wallet will thank you for this) always adjust the cheaper of the two parts. The only thing you've hurt so far (given that everything works as it should) is the resale value of your lower. If that is of no concern to you then there's no problem.

The lowers listed are all over the map in regards to specs so it really doesn't mean much that a RRA LPK went into them.

I just measured 10 RA lowers. The bolt catch slots were all the same dimensions. Then I measured some Colt lowers. They were very close to the RA lowers.

Next I measured some LMT and Colt bolt catches. They were the same and smaller than the bolt catch slot in the lowers I measured.

For fun, I justed ordered a RRA bolt catch. Will measure it and report back.

I think assigning blame and finding the out of spec part is very important. I'd like to know or at least have more evidence about who is making crap and who is not.

Well, yes, for anyone else than the OP I agree. The OP however is stuck with the parts he has. His main goal should be to get everything into working order; assigning blame and finding the out of spec part won't help him (especially since he's already put his dremel to the lower).

It does still matter in a way. Whether the RRA bolt catch is in spec or not, I would replace it with one of known quality.

Next time, just stick with LMT LPKs. IMHO, LMT parts are some of the best out there that's reasonably priced.
