I just measured 10 RA lowers. The bolt catch slots were all the same dimensions. Then I measured some Colt lowers. They were very close to the RA lowers.

Next I measured some LMT and Colt bolt catches. They were the same and smaller than the bolt catch slot in the lowers I measured.

For fun, I justed ordered a RRA bolt catch. Will measure it and report back.

Even though it won't help me in my particular situation, I am curious to find out what you learn. I'll keep an eye on the thread to see what measurement you get with the RRA part.

I do wish I had asked this question before reaching for the dremel, but I got impatient. I had been waiting for a while to get the parts installed and when the UPS guy finally dropped them off yesterday, I got carried away. When the bolt catch didn't fit, I just didn't think it through. I don't think it will hurt anything, but it will still bug me to know that I had to take a dremel to my lower.

FWIW, 3.78mm is the width of the bolt catch... (DD LPK)

Okay, so yeah; if he's willing to spend more money than he already has then it would matter to the OP as well (but then we've already pointed out that the best option is to swap/grind/adjust the cheapest part: ie the bolt catch).

One more update... I posted the same OP on another EBR forum and found something interesting. Two other people with the same combo (Mega/RA lower and an RRA LPK) had the same issue. No reports of it happening with an RRA LPK and a different lower and no reports of it happening with a Mega/RA lower and a different LPK. It seems that this particular combo can be an issue. Someone hypothesized that Mega (I'm pretty sure they make the RA lowers) makes them to a very tight tolerance, but then is a bit heavy handed with the finish thickness. If this is the case and RRA is on the thick side of the range, the two could just be a bad combo.

I'll throw this in. I have a Mega lower and a DD bolt catch and it's really gritty and tight. I tried putting in some lube, but it's still seems a little on the tight side. I haven't been able to take it to the range yet, as I just completed it, but while cycling it, it doesn't always lock open on an empty mag.
Sorry, I have no micrometer, so I don't have measurements. I'll have to see if I can find someone with one.

A much less aggressive solution than a dremel that someone suggested to me was to do some light sanding with a red scotch brite pad on the channel and the bolt catch and then a light coating of oil. They said this worked well for them.

Anodizing is not a coating, it is a layer of oxidized aluminium.
Type 3 is "thicker", but we are talking about 0.001" here.
I can't see how the manufacturer could get heavy handed as that poster claims.

    Thank you.

Correct. As I stated, I measured the RA bolt catch slot, they were similar in size to the Colt lowers. So my guess is that the RRA is just oversized.

I think I'd prefer to take it to the range first to see how it affects actual function. If it's still a problem, I will measure the channel and the bolt catch and see which is out of spec. If the lower is out of spec, well, I'm not sending it back, and I'll try to sand the bolt catch or maybe find a thinner bolt catch.
Any one have a couple DD bolt catches they could measure just for reference?
