    EoTECH question

hey guys, I am in the market for an eotech, I have narrowed it down to the 517 because I want the 7mm raised base and the AA battery for availability reasons. I also have no need for NV capabilities so I figured this model fits my need the best.

I will be using this on my primary carbine which is a DD V1, and it will be used for training classes, ACTS and other matches and as my HD/SHTF rifle.

I did a search here, and did not find the answer so here it is:

Does the 517 have the new Rev F upgrades or is it the older style that has some of the problems that the older ones have?

    Thanks in advance guys

Yes, I believe all their dual-battery optics have come with the revision f updates for several years now.

I believe the standing recommendation re: Eotechs, based on user experience/feedback, is to go with the XPS models.

Yeh, I'd spend the extra $35 and get the Eotech OPMOD from Optics Planet. I have a 517 and a couple of OPMODs and I prefer the latter.

That's what I was going to type. I've used both quite a bit and the EXPS is the only way to go. You can get rechargeable CR123s if they're that hard to find where you live, or just stockpile like 50 of them. They have a 10 year shelf life.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I have looked at the xps line and I do like them but with the price I can get the 517 (less than $400) and what I will pay for the exps which is about $540 (all the regular xps's are out of stock) I was thinking I could not go wrong.

I looked at the opmod as well and those were $495 plus shipping so IM still about $100 over what I would pay for the 517. IM kinda torn between the opmod and 517 now, I had a 557 a while back and really liked it so that is why IM still leaning toward the 517

Check the EE, there was an EXPS-3 for less than a new one.

I highly recommend you follow Kyle Defoor's battery box fix procedure:

    http://www.kyledefoor.com/2009/12/mo...ch-secret.html

Mike Pannone also out outlined a similar fix here:

    https://www.m4carbine.net/showpost.p...41&postcount=8

If you don't do this, it's not a matter of if, but WHEN the battery box is going to let you down. You'll be swapping batteries one day and find that one of the rubber grommets has fallen out and disappeared into the abyss, never to be found again. The sight will likely start flickering before this happens, indicating that they're working loose and no longer making solid contact. But the two solutions outlined above mitigate the problem greatly.

A0cake, thanks for the info. I will do as soon as I get the optic. I makes sense. Another thing I was going to do is get another battery compartment and have it as a backup.
