    I'm in Israel...

And I must say there are a wide variety of guns around. Every hotel, mall and most nicer restaurants have an armed guard at the door. All handguns varying the from the Browning Hi-Power to Glocks. There have been a few I couldn't identify from where I was. The M4 is obviously the most prevalent long gun with the Commando model sporting a 12" barreled upper the most common in use by the military, police and border patrol. All were well worn. I saw a private security guy today with a Micro Uzi; that was unusual. I'm told the Tavor TAR-21 is replacing the M4, but I haven't seen one yet. It's not unusual to see off duty soldiers in jeans an a T-Shirt walking with family and carrying an M4 taking in the sights.

Im sure the more spear type units are using the Tar-21, its seems surprising people carrying around those types of firearms. But its israel, that country just waits for a when a threat will happen. Its not a matter of "if" it will happen but "when" it will happen.
I support Israel all the way.

We were in Israel three months ago. I noticed the same thing, with all the troops we saw using well worn older rifles, with most having the full size guns.

The first two days of our tour we didn't even see any military. Once we got into Jerusalem, and then headed into the southern portion of Israel we saw plenty.

The only weapons we saw, during our 9 day tour, were with the military and police. I never saw anyone armed around the hotels, or anyone in plain clothes.

I'm betting, with things heating up pretty good again, you are seeing more than we did.

All of the guns at the hotel were concealed. No disrespect, but I know what to look for by trade and do it automatically. Our guide advised this is the norm, I don't have a problem with it, it just takes a little getting used to. I bet their violent crime is pretty low.

Sounds like things haven't changed too much since I visited there in the early 1990s. I saw an elderly man open carrying a Desert Eagle
