Nothing to see soldiers off duty walking down streets or hitchhiking with rifles. Good part is people stop and pick them up. How often do you think that would happen in the US? Usually all the tour guides are armed but many times the weapons are left in the tour vehicles. Western tourists get weird seeing weapons while on a tour. If you get away from the cities and out in to some of the rural Kibbutzs', many have small armories filled with old FAL's, Galil's and AK's. Good rifles have a hard time dissappearing.
I have always wanted to visit Israel, and I surely will at some point. I hope you have had a great trip.
Here is a pic of an Israeli Motor Officer handling traffic and street closures during Putins visit. We also saw two officers on one motorcycle a few timesAttachment 12638, both carrying rifles. Never seen that before.

What are the laws for visitors and weapons? God forbid when something does happen, but the old saying does come to mind: "When in Rome..."
Visitors are not allowed firearms.

I've been a few times & stayed in Israeli homes; met the people, etc.
They do indeed carry without a round in the chamber & here is what they told me as to "why" it's done that way in Israel:
-OP, you identified a variety of handguns. Israel, since its founding in 1948, has pressed almost any and all serviceable handguns into active service, regardless of action type.
-Even more varied than the types of guns are the nations/cultures represented among Israel's citizens. Literally dozens of languages are spoken in addition to Hebrew (which is a 2nd language for many citizens/soldiers).
That presents a training problem. How do you plan to safely train such diverse conscripts on dozens of different handgun types?
Effectively, all semi autos have only one common safety feature: they do not go off accidentally if the chamber is kept empty. This is a safety precaution in view of the realities they face.
Further, unlike the military doctinal view of say, the Russians or maybe the Chinese, the Israelis hold a soldier's individual life in extremely high regard; so there is an emphasis on safety whenever possible. They think this way in part because they expect to be out-numbered, as they have been so many times in the past.
OP: thanks for the pics; keep them coming & enjoy your stay.
Love is IDF gals.
