You almost sound like a salesman for YHM. I don't need to look at their website as I have seen it before and I know what their specs are. If you feel that having a barrel that is not MILSPEC is good then that's great.

Also notice the lack of whether or not the HP/MPI test their barrels and BCG's or even if they Xray them. Or their outdated rail system that is a PITA to remove and install.

I am glad to see that your research led you to YHM. Please tell us how much your entire build cost.

The barrel shoots well, I shot 5 round groups at 100 yds to zero the aimpoint, and the best group I got was 2" shooting prone, and I figured that's as good as I'll get. I'm not the best shot with optics, I feel more capable with iron sights. As for overgassed, this carbine has less kick than my 16" factory M&P-15 gas piston carbine. This 14.5" doesn't cycle PMC either, it'll cycle Federal XM193 just fine, as well as the wally world bulk federal .223. I buy XM193 and XM855 by the 1000 rd case, its cheaper than PMC. And as I've said about YHM quality, please take the time to look at their website. By due diligence, I meant I researched YHM thoroughly, and as much as their name is run down everywhere, I could find no actual proof, nor anyone that has had a problem with them. The only part on this build that was influenced by a gun shop owner or anyone on any forum was the spikes buffer, and at $30 its not gonna make or break me.

I have a buddy with a YHM upper, the black diamond series, same goofy flutes you have. His is a 1:7 16" and it's a shooter. I like the rails myself, they may be "outdated" and a hair heavy but they're solid as hell and affordable. I've shot his rifle on several occasions and It wasn't at all harsh shooting. The BCG was properly staked everything mated up nicely. The only faults I could find was there were little imperfections "flashing?" in the diamonds of the rail, purely cosmetic. I know for a fact he's fired over 1k through it with no problems. Time will tell.
L.L. this, L.L. that, soon as I walk in the place.....

I love a good mutt carbine

My favorite rifle has parts from 16 different 'top' manufacturers (had to count after seeing your post) and I'd take it over a factory stick any day of the week just because I have it built exactly how I want it...

As are mine... I scratch my head whenever people ask me what brand my ARs are.
