Pedialyte vs Elixer in a Camelbak

Have any of you gentleman tried mixing some pedialyte with your water in your camelbak system? I am looking for an alternative to the Camelbak Elixer tablets. I didn't know if this stuff would "gum up the works" or not.

I use my Camelbak for daily walks/jogs/runs.

    Thanks, gents

Elixir is sugar free. GU Brew is the same stuff and can be had for about half the price. I wouldn't put anything sugar based in a hydration pack. I think it would be nearly impossible to get all of the sugar out. Unless of course you were trying to turn your hydration pack into a still.

Adding any sugar to your hydration system is a sure way to turn it into a science experiment. Don't do it.

I do the endurance runs like the Spartan Sprint and Tough Mudder. Most guys use something like GU or Cliff SHOT Bloks. Most of the guys I know who do 50 mile plus bike rides also use GU or SHOT Bloks.

Even Elixir or Nuun will leave some residue in the bladders. I prefer to run electrolytes in an insulated bottle or two on the bike, and just ice water in the camelbak bladder. Bottles can be washed easily, but the bladders are problematic.

Spartan and Tough Mudder are hardly endurance runs. Water before and after is all you need for these.

Ah, ok. The last Tough Mudder I did was 10 miles on a closed double black diamond ski slope. It sure seemed like an endurance event. For that matter, so does a 12 mile ruck march. Marathon runners seem to avoid any events that might require some upper body strength or running up (and down) steep grades.

What then would you classify as an endurance event that requires supplemental electrolytes and sugars? Remember, the original Gatorade was developed for football and these sorts of supplements are used widely in professional sports where millions of dollars on the line. What do you know that the pros do not?

Chest beating aside, I just bought my first civiside non issued camelbak for mtbing.

Walmart has thier knockoff version of those MIO drink squirt things. Has no suger, treats 2 100oz bladders by my math, and best of all has a little mtber dude on it, so you know, it has to work.

Im not sure if it really restores stuff, but I seem to drink more of something when it has flavor.

Sorry for being an ass, but I get annoyed with some things when it comes to running, hiking, and endurance events. In the end, it is all about what works for you. Personally, water for efforts up to one hour (85% MHR), diluted sports drinks for up to two hours (~80% MHR), and adding gels or solid food for events over two hours (~70% MHR).

I would only use water in a Camelback as Armati and MK18 stated. Use easy to clean containers for sugar drinks. Pedialyte is good stuff. My wife has used it with great success prior to hot weather 1/2 and full marathons.

I kept couple of those pedilyte pops in my cargo pocket for a ruck. Also great after a night of boozing.

I have been wanting to give this a try for emergency hydration situations. There is already a thread in here https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...hlight=oral+iv ,still think might give try and keep Pedlite.
