Jason, I have never seen the Hornady 7.62x39 anywhere, ever. Frankly, it never made sense to me.
Back when the Hornady 5.56 training ammo came out it was a novel prospect, the use of cheaper Russian steal cases with U.S. bullets, primers, and powder, ending up with a training round significantly cheaper than brass cased competitors. It was a bargain.
7.62x39, however, doesn't present the same market conditions as the Hornady 5.56 did. Hornady can't build a cheaper round than the Russian/East European imports, especially the surplus, making the round a market "dud", so to speak. If you find any, anywhere let me know what it costs, I'm sure the price will be shocking.

I have never been able to locate it either. I know I doesn't make economical sense when compared to the Eastern European and Russian stuff. However, I had read Doc's test on this cartridge and wanted to try the Hornady stuff in my rifle as a possible defense round. The bullet they (Hornady) use in their steel case 7.62 is supposed to be good stuff. I believe the Winchester soft point was another recommended round for this situation, so I guess I'll grab some of it and see how it works.
Sorry for the outrageous thread hi-jack.

To the OP, It is pretty clear that Hornady training ammo, although a quality product, just doesn't represent the bargain it once was, especially in the 55gr, where overrun or new production brass cased ammo can be found for the same price or significantly cheaper.
