    Toiletries ??

I was thinking about going to the local dollar store and spending $20 or so on some cheap soaps. (dish, hand, shampoo). I think this is something that too many people over look. We can't be stinky for health AND QoL reasons.

Picking up a big 5 gal bucket of Sodium Hypochlorite would also be a good idea, as you could make a TON of liquid bleach with it.

And what about TP? In Jim Rawles book Patriots, they got their hands on a pallet of unwanted phone books and used those for TP, pretty clever. TP takes up a lot of space that I don't have, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do there.

    Beans, Bullets, and Bandaids.
    Bleach, Butt-paper, and Body soap.
    and Batteries

I do stock up on soap. I also have several 5 gallon containers of STB. As for TP, well i find the room. I always get 2 of the big things when i go to Sam's. One to use and one to store.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

Good thread. The small stuff is very important + good barter material. I love these sections at the store with the small sample/travel sizes - perfect and often on sale.

Nail Clippers - another small item that is cheap and often overlooked. Imagine trying to deal with cutting toe nails without them. Can you imagine the pain of having to hump for miles with long or mangled nails?

    Oh yeah on toilet paper.

    - In the old days they'd keep a basket of corn cobs and the husks by the outhouse. They'd use it to wipe + as a torch (thus, the old saying "light a husk"). He he, they'd use an unused cob/husk as a torch - not after

    - Smooth flat rocks. Had a buddy who spent a semester in college doing a wilderness living class alone. He related how he became obsessed with smooth flat rocks and could eventually subliminally scan for them as he hiked

Good thread, we purchase and store anywhere from 8 to10 Costco 36 roll packages. Costco has recently down sized there packages in number of rolls, but thicker paper.

We also have a year maybe a year and a half worh of soap to include shampoo and specialty soaps like baby soaps for our grand children.

I might be talking out my ass but I have read on several different sites that calcium hypochlorite has a longer shelf life than sodium hypochlorite, produces a stronger concentration of chlorine, and is readily available when sold as "pool shock" (e.g. http://www.tacticalintelligence.net/...e-chlorine.htm).

I'm no chemist so I'll gladly stand corrected if someone has better dope.

Amazon sells In The Swim Chlorine Pool Shock at $22 for six 1-lb bags which would treat a shit load of water. The one caveat with pool shock products is making sure it's just calcium hypochlorite and inert ingredients without any other additives like algicides, etc.

ETA: Here's the EPA webpage on emergency disinfection of drinking water with a discussion on utilizing calcium hypochlorite (http://water.epa.gov/drink/emerprep/...sinfection.cfm)

The problem with calcium hypochlorite is it off gases. It will corrode any metal containers it's stored in or under. Just be aware of where you're putting it. And it gives off chlorine gas, btw.

Just remember that when building your sanitation kits thats its portable and can be used with and without water. Obviously the basics of soap, shampoo, tooth paste and like items are included but when water is at a premium hypoallergenic wet wipes can take over for personal cleaning.

Also a self standing folding camping toilet seat that uses plastic bags can be used when the toilet is out of action.

I keep a small container of dish soap, two bars of soap, a DE razor and blades for myself as well as a package of disposable razors, two rolls of TP, a folding trowel for quick poop hole digging, and one package of Costco baby wipes in my "Go" box (big plastic tool box that contains sundry items such as toiletries and first aid supplies and some food that will be grabbed in addition to other bags).
It's not set up for long term but for bugging for a week or so it's handy.
