    Bought a Berretta 92 FS.......

Though i'm not fan of 9mm per say, i am a fan of US military and US military style small arms, also thought having a 9mm in my armory would be useful in SHTF if i had to scavenge for ammo. Even though i prefer calibers starting in .4 for defensive purposes if 9mm is what i have it beats throwing rocks.

I've had one before, the grip fits my hand perfectly on these guns, but i'd like to have more reliable mags, it came with two factory, but more factory ones are like $45 each!!

I know the Checkmates that .GOV had bought for M-9's sucketh and jam the gun a lot.

So what are my other options than factory that still work well?

Also it was my understanding that the 92FS was specifically modified from the 92F to take "hotter loads" so if someone used subgun ammo in them the slide wouldn't break? So why does the "Read This" manual for the guns say no +p or +p+?

I would say your best bet for mags would be MecGar.

    Hope this helps.

Beretta is selling factory mags for $19.95 right now via their website. If you google, a few other places have prices starting around $18 up to $22 for factory mags.

Your understanding is incorrect. During testing by the Army some overpressure ammunition somehow made it into the test and resulted in slide failures and separation from the weapon (IOW, the ass-end of the slide came shooting off the weapon, at the shooter) There was nothing to prevent the remains of the rear of the slide from coming off the pistol and injuring the shooter. The FS introduced a larger hammer pivot pin to prevent the slide from shooting off the frame should the slide fail. This is the only difference between the F and FS.

If the manual says not to do something, there is probably a good reason to heed the instruction.

New 92 mags are plentiful at the ~$25 price point. Used mags have been available by the truckload, check the usual wholesalers (CDNN, CTD, others).

Read up on the particulars of the Beretta and recommended PM. Lube it generously for best results.

Advances in bullet technology make your 9mm as good of a choice as any. See DocGKRs list of recommended loads.

Yeah had a 92FS before, it seemed to like a light film of Tetra PTFE gungrease on the rails, i'm sure this one is no different.

I had bought 92FS government issue, in the wrap magazines for $9 apiece a couple years back. They're still out there for cheap if you look.

On the topic of Beretta 9x series pistols....They're perfectly fine pistols. The people who bitch and moan about them being "unreliable" are the same people who still think the slides will blow into your face and they're also the ones who'll buy a Glock or M&P and despite having brass sent into their face, 8" at 25 yard groupings, FTE every mag, they still think they've chosen a superior pistol. If there is to be any "general" rule about owning a 92FS or variant model, it's just to not feed it a steady diet of overpressure ammunition.

Does this also apply to the A1? I'm very interested in picking up an A1 and put a D spring in.

You are not looking hard enough. As someone else said, you can find factory mags for a pretty good price (while it lasts).
I should have never sold my 92FS, I was thinning out the herd and decided it had to go. I went the Glock route instead for 9mm (and have had NO problems). I like the 92FS, it should serve you well and shop around for mags.

Yes. All current 90 series Berettas have the larger hammer pin.
