    Reliable carry 1911 9mm

I'm debating a couple different options and wanted to
See who may have any first hand experience with them.

First one is the Wilson combat spec ops 9mm. I know it's
Border line blasphemy because it's poly framed and
High capacity. But obviously Wilson makes awesome
Stuff, but with them being on the pricier side and a year
In production time it's not gonna be in hands any time soon.

Second is the smith and Wesson pro series 1911, I work
For a shop and we have one that feels awesome but I've never
Had any trigger time with one.

Last would be a rock island, we've sold several in shop
But that doesn't necessarily mean they are quality.
It just means they are cheap(we've sold the 45 versions).
At dealer cost this could be an interesting option for a
    Project gun.

    Thanks for the help!

If you're looking for a steel-framed single-action 9mm, why not try the Browning Hi Power? It was designed from the ground up as a 9mm, and you could get a really nice one for a lot less than a Wilson...

I owned a Citadel 45 before. Its just a re branded RI. This was the A1 version. It has Novak style sights, lowered ejection port and beavertail grip safety. At the time I was curious about the 1911 and wanted to try it without having to spend a ton of money. I spoted this Citadel at a local store, it was used for $350. I figured I can always sell it and not loose much. So anyhow, didnt take any classes with it but I did put several thousand rounds of various 45acp through it (light ball, heavy ball, +p, power ball, HP and FMJ. Aquila - Wolf) I only cleaned it when I bought it and when I sold it. Between that it never had a problem. Fed all ammo, no ejection problems, no stove pipes....nothing. That being said I wouldnt buy it as a main SD/CCW gun. The metal they use isnt the greatest if you plan on high volume fire and SD. I wouldnt want to risk having a failure at the wrong time. But, if you want to see about getting into the 1911 platform without spending a lot and you can find one cheap enough get the RI.

I view the WC as the best (high end). On a budget, the S&W is probably the best thing going. What is most important is that you use the WC Elite 9mm mags.

I've shot high powers and wasn't impressed. I've always been a fan of the 1911 design. But I'm just loaded up with 9mm.

Have you shot one of the Wilson spec ops? I could also look at
    A CQB.

    I've carried:
    EMP 9mm
    DW Guardian 9mm

    And now a STI Tactical 4.15 9mm

All 3 have been reliable, I have plenty of 9mm 1911/2011's

Grant, I'm sure you will agree the S&W Pro has a pain in the butt firing pin safety that has to go. I'm about ready to sell mine if I don't get around to removing it. Need to find a link on the Internet on removing it and installing better sights while I'm at it.

As mentioned in other threads, if I wanted a double stack 9mm based on the 1911 platform, I would not hesitate to get the specop. It's a damn fine machine but you pay for that.

I'm generally a fan of the SW 1911s for the $$$, but the one person I know who had the 9mm, had many issues and it took a while to make it run. That's an n = 1 example, so take it for what it's worth.

If they make a 9mm in the E series, that might be a winner.

I have no experience or feedback from RI 1911 in 9mm (didn't even know they made one) and would put other makers on the short list over RI who have experience making 9mm 1911s such as STI.

If ToddG's current endurance test of a SA 9 mm 1911 continues to go as smoothly as it has so far (http://pistol-training.com/archives/6942), you might wish to take a look at a high-end SA from the custom shop.
